Posted September 23, 201113 yr I'm thinking in terms of a number of months since first release, at least. The classic recent example has to be Journey - Don't Stop Believin', but what others should be added to the list? Edited September 23, 201113 yr by vidcapper
September 23, 201113 yr Sean Kingston - Party All Night (Sleep All Day); It was released in like January or something I believe? :P Mumford & Sons' album took a while to properly take off as well iirc...
September 23, 201113 yr Not really? If you base them off their original release then they did. They both peaked first week after their re-releases though.
September 23, 201113 yr Not really? Yes really, both songs were first released over a year before they charted.
September 23, 201113 yr Jason Mraz - I'm Yours Released in 2008 but didn't take off until early 2009.
September 23, 201113 yr Back To Black originally went in at 3 and then plummeted out of the top 40 for a while, yet in the first month of 2007, climbed to number 1 and stayed in the chart for the whole year
September 23, 201113 yr Beyoyo's 'I Am Sasha Fierce' album took a while to take off properly. People were deeming it a flop at some points and now it's become her most successful era.
September 23, 201113 yr Showing my age here, but "You spin me round" by Dead or Alive spent around 4 months in the T100 before reaching number 1.
September 23, 201113 yr Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel's 'White Lines (Don't Do It)' spent 26 weeks in the top 100 before going top 40 for the first time, it didn't go top 10 until its 30th chart week and it didn't reach its peak of #7 until its 33rd chart week! There was a five week gap in its top 100 run before going top 40 as well. http://www.chartstats.com/release.php?release=10957 It spent 56 weeks in the top 100 in total in its original chart run from Nov 1983 - Jan 1985, then another 4 weeks from two re-releases in 1990 and 1994. Must be one of the longest chart runs for an 80s song.
September 23, 201113 yr Showing my age here, but "You spin me round" by Dead or Alive spent around 4 months in the T100 before reaching number 1. I love that song (mainly for giving us Right Round :D). That must be a record (no pun intended :kink:) for time taken to reach #1! :o EDIT: Or Telephone by Lady Gaga, I remember reading that somewhere (although that song wasn't a case of taking ages to take off, it was more a case of taking off very early!).
