Would Loca People be the first Spanish song at number one since The Ketchup Song?

It's not even fully in Spanish.

and the most iconic, marking this icon's deaprture from her solo career after narrowly failing to go top ten in a blaze of glory;

As far as three pin socket/penis metaphors go, this song is in definite Beavis & Butthead territory.

Strange that 3 different Spanish acts had #1s in 2002 (Enrique Iglesias, Las Ketchup and DJ Sammy) but none since until now!
I raise you:

Great pop song although it sounds a bit lacking in the chorus due to the absence of their former bandmates and the added vocal oomph. I love it, but it was clearly a Steps leftover.

Electric was ahead of its time, just like Rachel Stevens' 2005 output :drama: Sounds like a 2009 smash to me.

You can use it for your radio show :D probably get lynched for it :P

I quite like Electric. Poor Lisa, she was so optimistic!

I considered a similar quirk when listening to Now 52 the other day and noticing that the first disc started with DJ Sammy, Las Ketchup and Enrique (albeit not Hero).

The version we had from The Ketchup Song was sung in Spanish but I guess that the UK got a remake of it?

We had a bilingual version. What's weird is that listening to the remix on the CD single (yes I bought it) it was obvious that it was sung by totally different singers.

Watching her reactions as her chart positions came in on her car crash TV show was all part of the magic though!

Lisa: 'Really hoping for top five'

Manager: 'We're #23, but don't worry - there's a lot of competition, Linkin Park are ahead for a start'

This was 2004, the year where a #23 sold 55 copies a week

Yep, the 'Spanglish' version with English verses and the Spanish chorus. Then we got a xmas version in December with added bells

Now 53 :P I always thought the linked nationality was why Enrique was track 3 there. Love To See You Cry only peaked at 12.

Oops, you're right  Indeed, there had to be a reason for it! Although I guess his album was pretty much the biggest seller of the year at that point too which could have been another explanation.

Bless her  I didn't realise that sales were so bad at the time. But I do think she's a bit of a wannabe. To this very day.

Did the Christmas version ever get released by the way? I remember it being on the music channels (with an alternative video filmed in a club with superimposed Christmas lights)...

the UK always gets different versions :P

We can't handle anything that's not in English or above two minutes in length, our tiny attention spans apparently can't handle it :drama:

There seems to be a distrust of songs not in the English language in the UK (99 Red Balloons being the famous example). I think the British public is scared of not knowing what they're singing about, in case they're dissing Bowler Hats or some other English instutution.

Oh definitely, her constant crocodile tears in the reunion documentary tells us that much

It did! I remember seeing it on the shelves in Woolies, it had a 'festive' cover - I believe it helped to keep it top ten over the xmas period, certainly it climbed a place or two the week it was released iirc.

And coincidentally we could get another Spanglish #1 this year if 'Danza Kuduro (Throw Your Hands Up)' delivers :P Although in this case none of the artists are Spanish. Unless this Qwote person is Spanish, I can't seem to find any information about him/her/it on the Internet.

EDIT: Nope, he appears to be American.

It did - it was combined with the sales of the original though.
