October 10, 201113 yr I would say in the week where Example got to #1 Radio 1 possibly made the difference but otherwise no, the gaps were too big.

Not just Example but Dappy and Sak Noel wouldn't have been #1 without Radio 1 support. Pixie Lott, One Direction and Rihanna would've still made it because of commercial radio (and massive hype in Rihanna's case) Edited October 10, 201113 yr by danielXF

October 10, 201113 yr I don't care if they don't playlist certain songs because the majority of the songs they playlist are crap. It's just the fact they have to criticize so heavily on them like Chris Moyles does. There really is no need for it. I'm sure you wouldn't hear DJ's from Capital Fm or Heart or even Radio 2 slag songs off over air at all. Maybe once or twice but hardly at all. I'm pretty sure Greg & Scott probs don't think too highly MLJ but they won't make it intentially clear they detest a song. Edited October 10, 201113 yr by Rob Summers

October 10, 201113 yr I'm pretty sure Greg & Scott probs don't think too highly MLJ but they won't make it intentially clear they detest a song. You are wrong about Greg. I've already posted in this thread about how he played a bit of it when playing back a clip of a telephone conversation with one of his friends where they were discussing the dance routine they were planning for it when they go on holiday. He described it as "their song", which suggests it's one of his favourites. Incidentally, Fern Cotton also forgot the script today when talking about the Michael Jackson tribute. The official reporter was talking about all of the Radio 1 approved acts, with some dull clips of Leona and JLS when Fern started talking about how amazing Alexandra's performance was.
October 10, 201113 yr The plainest and most obvious reason Radio One won't play Moves Like Jagger is that it's a great pop song. And it doesn't have a faceless random 'rapper' squawking all over it.

That's completely subjective. I don't think it is and Radio 1 clearly don't think it is either. Radio 1 playlist plenty of other songs that I'm sure even you think are 'great pop songs'. And there is a version with a faceless random 'rapper' squawking all over it, it's just not as popular as the normal version. 8yGiO4wveHc So if your theory made any sense at all (which it doesn't), surely Radio 1 would playlist this Mac Miller version? Pixie Lott, One Direction and Rihanna would've still made it because of commercial radio (and massive hype in Rihanna's case) Well of course but I am taking it as "Does Radio 1 refusing to play Maroon 5 stop it getting the #1?" and so I'm basing it on if Maroon had gotten A-list airplay as well as whoever he was up against. I think the airplay from Radio 1 would have been enough to see off Example but not the rest unless they were blanked.

Wow-that's me told then. may I introduce you to the concept of sarcasm and gentle humour.........
October 11, 201113 yr Lol, I figured most people here listen to Capital. Same 4 songs on loop. When I tune it it's almost always The Wanted (for obvious reasons) or Pitbull and they're still playing LMFAO party rock anthem.
October 11, 201113 yr Wow-that's me told then. may I introduce you to the concept of sarcasm and gentle humour......... Just looked like you not understanding that music taste is subjective to me. Generally you should include some obvious indication that you're being sarcastic as it's hard to tell on the internet, especially since quite a lot of people probably would make a post like that in 100% seriousness. October 12, 201113 yr I think the main problem is that people can't understand why Radio 1 wouldn't playlist MLJ. It fits their target audience of 15-29 perfectly. It goes down a storm in clubs at the weekend. It just seems odd they won't playlist it. I'm not saying they have to, it just seems a little weird and leads to the idea that they saw the artists involved and dismissed it without even giving it a listen. This. Also, I don't really see how Maroon 5 & Christina are R2 fodder! Because they've turned 30? If we're going by the R1/R2 age demographics - Eminem is 37, J-Lo is 40, and David Guetta is 44 next month! Yes, Eminem is probably less likely to appeal to the stereotypical R2 listener than Maroon 5 are - but I'd argue that Jennifer Lopez might appeal more than M5 - and Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna could too; equally, a lot of the new stuff that Radio 2 playlists could appeal to the R1 demographic (not, granted, when it's artists like Doris Day or Status Quo, but then 35+ is a far bigger demographic than R1's) For me, Radio 1 isn't as good as it was when the daily line up was Chris Moyles (to be fair his show is usually OK when he's not being a tw*t), then more importantly Jo Whiley and Colin & Edith. Zane Lowe's shows are pretty good, and I quite like Scott Mills, but that's about it. 6 Music is better IMO, and in terms of new music Radio 2 have Janice Long and Dermot O'Leary - and although there is a lot of dross on R2, the variety of music is pretty good (and I'm 21).
