January 10, 201214 yr Author How come they have changed it? There have been midweeks on a tuesday for ages now. A possible answer to this could be OCC are sending the mids to Radio 1 for their Wednesday transmission of the chart update and available on the OCC site first. Instead of MW dishing out the info on Tuesdays. So Radio 1 will get a first look-in, before MW
January 10, 201214 yr Maccabees at #1? Brilliant! Not expecting it to stay there but still, great start.
January 10, 201214 yr Are the Tuesday updates not part of the service for which Music Week subscribers are paying? Are subscribers (and the wider industry) going to accept a reduction in service, while paying the same? It seems to run counter to the way every other industry is moving, where they are trying to improve levels of customer service, not make the service worse.

They'll be getting an Email from me today along these general lines - the mids are one of the most important reasons I have a sub with them in the first place

January 10, 201214 yr Bit more of sad news to come regarding the mids situation, Robbie over to youYes, sad news. I contacted Music Week to see if they could clarify the situation re: midweeks and they have replied that they will only be publishing the midweek charts twice a week - Wednesday after 4pm and Friday from 11am onwards. From this week there will be no midweek charts published at Music Week on a Tuesday or a Thursday. The charts for those two days are still being compiled but under the terms of the new annual deal between Music Week and the OCC the midweeks sent to Music Week will be restricted to those two days. In addition there are changes to which weekly charts will be published. The only album charts now being sent to Music Week are the top 75 Sales albums, the top 20 Compilations albums, the top 20 Indie albums and the top 20 Indie Breakers albums. I don't know what singles charts they will be receiving, most haven't appeared this week but that may be due to the new contract still being drawn up. Edited January 10, 201214 yr by Robbie
January 10, 201214 yr If they are only giving mids on a friday ( whats the point of them posting after 4pm on a wednesday ) i will probably cancel as well.
January 10, 201214 yr Author I can't see the point in keeping my MW account just for one day of mids (Fridays) when they are available on Radio 1 on Weds, in full top 40 form and the top 75 charts on Sundays, where on the OCC site they publish the full top 100 instead of a top 75. The only sticky problem is the sales info on Mondays. And the YTDs singles and albums have not been published this week, which has probably affected them, which puts vidcapper up the shit creek regarding his YTD topics, pardon the expression.
January 10, 201214 yr Thanks for the news regarding midweeks, im so disappointed it's going to change :( I looked forward to the charts every Tuesday.

Of them, exactly MW, - there is no point, but this way Radio 1 will broadcast the midweek info exclusively. It all seems like Music Week is in a huge trouble financially that they couldn't afford the standard scheme with OCC. But this is the vicious circle: once they limit their services even more people will cancel the subscription, as we can clearly see even in this thread. I get it we have four (?) subscribers who post midweeks - Mikey, Sunday, Tom and Spiidey, sorry if I forgot anyone. And at least three of them are considering or have already cancelled the subscription. I expect either a total closure for MW or huge reconstruction / further degradation, maybe even in nearest future. Edited January 10, 201214 yr by Arrs
January 10, 201214 yr MW have been in financial trouble for some time. When it changed ownership last year they said that they might have gone out of business otherwise.
January 10, 201214 yr This is unwelcome news but at least they're not completely getting rid of the mids I guess! Yes at The Maccabees being the #1 album at the moment :cheer: Wasn't expecting that at all. It's be wondrous if they could hold on all week but I'm sure they'll fall down like most 'alternative' albums that are #1 at the start of the week. Edited January 10, 201214 yr by Bré
January 10, 201214 yr Author MW have been in financial trouble for some time. When it changed ownership last year they said that they might have gone out of business otherwise. They will go out of business as members will ditch their subs, another possibility is clubbing together with just one account and somehow the costs will spread thinly for some MW subscribers, so you are not paying the full whack yourself.
January 10, 201214 yr Thought these new owners would restrict things....does anyone know when the first new edition of MW for 2012 is on sale...is it this Wednesday?

I expected them to be top3 at this stage - its the first big album in a month!
January 10, 201214 yr I expected them to be top3 at this stage - its the first big album in a month! I wasn't sure if it even qualified as a 'big album', their last album missed the top 10. I guess it's a similar situation to The Horrors' last album though.
January 10, 201214 yr Author Another thing if Radio 1 have got the exclusive charts on a Wednesday Mid chart update I can't see the point in summarising the top 40, I'll be wasting my time, I might as well post the links from Radio 1 on here for everyone to see the top 40 in full, or any member can do that. Anyhow we see how things go this week and next week.
