Me too. I was surprised how many people seemed to not have an mp3 of an entry they supposedly really love (although I guess they do have one now! )

Now you've kindly bought it for them!

Maybe it's just me, but the first thing I do when I hear a song that I love is acquire an MP3 of it, and it stands to reason that I'd only send to BJSC a song that I love. If it's not strong enough to go top five in my chart then I instantly dismiss the thought of sending it, regardless of whether or not I think it will do well.

I really don't see why the host should be paying for mp3 links, that's a bit too far IMO. Even if you liked them.

My personal opinion is the Host shouldn't really get penalized for failing to compile a complete set of mp3 for download when the sender themselves don't bother finding a mp3 to submit. If it's listenable via online then it's available somewhere to download. I mean, who sends a track that they can't find where they got it from anyways? If I were a host (never going to happen) I wouldn't bother searching hours for mp3 that people don't attempt to send never mind buying them. You don't put the effort in then don't expect the hosts to spoon feed you.

I think it's only fair everyone is represented in HQ, but I did like everything I bought! Couldn't find something in better quality otherwise, actually! Farahtyns' entry for instance.

I see what you mean, although I don't feel like it should be down to the host to go hunting for (or even buying!) 320kbs MP3's for 45 odd songs, it's a near impossible task to find them. Many of these songs are recent leaks that aren't available on iTunes etc... too!

I do personally think it should become a requirement to confirm with an MP3 file a la Unknown Pleasures, not only because it makes life easier for the host but also because you can decide which quality of and specific MP3 to send along, rather than complaining if the host bundles the wrong remix/edit into the pack or whatever because it's all they could find

I agree, I think it should be a requirement to send them also... and preferably via Mediafire! I wasn't going to go near some of the sites in a few PMs.

(ps, this wasn't actually supposed to begin a grumble about people not sending them - I didn't actually mind sourcing them... after all, PMing Pavel wasn't too difficult)

I agree with Oricon in principle too though, I don't think it's something that future hosts should be obliged to do. If a participant doesn't send one then they are merely disadvantaging themselves.

 I know what you mean, I stick to either Mediafire or Yousendit, anything thrusting 100 pop-ups at me as soon as I open the page is a definite no go area, virus central no doubt!

Didn't Apple the company proclaim that their products are immune to viruses? :D

Only sites I ever use are Zippyshare, Mediafire, Hulkshare and occasionaly 4shared (though you have waiting times there, so it's usually a last resort!) I like Zippyshare and Hulkshare most because you can listen to the quality before downloading!
The health status of Apple products is a sore subject of late. :(

 Didn't mean to remind you if your latest incident. *Sigh* some Apple problems are just unfixable especially those related to the iPad and iPhone. They can be sore in the head at times -_-

Although they do look neat and high tech :D. Was thinking of getting a MacBook but after your incident I'm having second thoughts :o

Oh no, you totally should. The main reason I was so upset was that I love it so much in the first place!

It's made me happier in under a year than my old PC ever managed to (weird girlfriend kinda analogy there), they're just so pretty, practical, speedy and easy to use (another weird girlfriend kinda analogy there too! :D ). Plus PCs have dodgy updates also.

The price for what you get in return isn't worth it though. The memory isn't large enough for me too as I would install a lot of Gaming stuff on it. PCs have dodgy updates? That's new for me :o

See, I already had my mp3 when I confirmed my first choice not realising I'd been beaten to it. Personally, I think people should only have to send an mp3 link once their track has been confirmed.

Like with GD, he waited for his proposed choice to upload before submitting his confirmation. The result? Someone beat Rich to it meaning all that time waiting for the mp3 to upload was wasted.

That's just my opinion though. :D

Uploading the song into mediafire takes less than 2 minutes though. But you can be right too. Just as long as one point you provide the mp3, any solution is good :P

I don't have an mp3 for my track because my iTunes and all my music is on my Desktop PC in a different county. I don't have much music on my Laptop at all as this is the first time I've not had my Desktop where I'm living so it's always seemed pointless to duplicate. I tend to just use Youtube at the moment to listen to stuff from my laptop which is why the need for a mp3 of my entry hasn't become necessary yet.

I know it's something the vast majority of us partake in anyway, but I don't want to force people into the whole sharing mp3 links thing if that is something they do not wish to do. It's not an integral part of the contest, just a convenience, so mp3 packs will remain something the host can provide if they wish with no obligation for a country to submit a link with their confirmation.

I don't agree in that it's too far a step to go by buying a couple of songs. I usually and generally buy music I like either way, and it's not like it costs me THAT much. In my contest I bought six songs (which is like 48 norwegian kroners - or a little over 5 pounds), mainly for the purpose of the competition. This is the first and only time I've done that as well since I've never won before, and how often does that happen? Like I mentioned, I found it to be fair that everyone was represented in HQ - but I also bought them so that everyone else who downloads the MP3 packs should get the chance to listen to everything, and hopefully keep it if they actually enjoyed the song. It's a win-win situation!

... and it took me about five minutes!

If the song isn't available anywhere than that's a whole different story (although it is required to provide a youtube/soundcloud link and there is a way of downloading off those), so there should be no real hassle to obtain just a handful of missing MP3's. It's rare when EVERYONE fails to provide download links if the host asks for it, though.

But I agree it should be a requirement; or at least made an etiquette of!

Yes but not everyone can afford to just download songs that havn't been given to them. And it can be a pain if quite a bit of people don't provide links when you're trying to compile the songs.

That is true. In that case one could ask said person to locate one. I asked several people to find an MP3 of their song when they confirmed without, and most of them did that later on :D

I definitely don't know what I'd do without the mp3 packs. They're the main reason why I can still take part in this contest at the moment. I usually have an mp3 of my entry. So if needs be, I could always send a link if needed.
I don't really use the mp3 packs. I just listen to the songs on youtube then I use youtube to mp3 converter on the songs that I like :D
Girl. I INVENTED mp3s.
