March 18, 201213 yr If you look at the chart runs of the big hits from the 80's, they weren't so long. I'd like it to be like that now. Pretty much the only major movement in the charts every weeks comes from songs that are held back, everything else just climbs or falls 5 places each week. I would say that is alot to do with the technology we have today and the fact that theres alot more places to hear songs for much longer, capital for instance plays song a year after they were big constantly so the biggest hits are longer runners, mind you its only the BIGGEST hits that stay for 20+ weeks in the top 40!

Definitely one of the best 'breakthrough' hits from 2011/2 - great to see it continuing such a strong chart run. That's true. And I remember when I listened to top 40 stations like Galaxy, etc. when I was younger, they didn't overplay the same songs for so long. Just a few months it seemed, although they'd go back and play an older song occasionally obviously. What they're playing at the moment on Capital isn't that much different to what they were playing 6 months ago.
