April 11, 201214 yr Author I think as long as Danny [script] and Jessie J are doing The Voice, their albums and singles are going to be around inside the 40 till the end of June. Jessie J's new single "Laserlight" will do pretty well for the next 2 months and a half.
April 11, 201214 yr 37 Stereophonics¬ ¬Re-Entries Stereophonics' album ism't a re-entry, it was #38 last week. (No idea what's caused it to come back though - was it relegated to budget and only allowed back on the official chart from last week or something? As it was showing up as a re-entry to the top 200...) OMG HALESTORM TOP 40  Is that literally just because Here's To Us was on Glee? Can't have had that big a boost surely? It's a new release, so no 'boost' involved :P
April 11, 201214 yr Emeli Sande at #5 in the albums, so it’s possible that she can climb to #4 come Sunday and continue its pattern! For those wanting to know the pattern: 01-02-01-03-02-04-03-05-(04) Quite an interesting pattern actually, it's great to see it looking likely to climb again too. With little in terms of new 'big' albums for a while, I think it'll definitely hang around in the top 5 for a little while longer.
April 11, 201214 yr Alternatively the pattern could just be that it goes down then up then down then up then down then up ad infinitum. Anyway, Emeli Sandé needs to fuck off really. 'Heaven' was brilliant but since then... BTW M!key, I just noticed that you've spelled Janelle Monáe's name as 'Janelle Moane'
April 11, 201214 yr Anyway, Emeli Sandé needs to fuck off really. 'Heaven' was brilliant but since then... :o Her album is fantastic! Next to Me is a little overplayed, but it's still a great album - my favourite of the year so far.
April 11, 201214 yr Wooo at Lana Del Rey back in the top 10, very surprised at how well her album has performed!
April 11, 201214 yr oops forgot to add Train, its the Radio 1 chart that has confused me. The charts on the Radio 1 website always class re-entries as fallers, or "down", or they have a down arrow next to them, or whatever. Obviously, it's wrong, since to re-enter the chart you have to climb, but that's what they do.
April 11, 201214 yr Also great to see The Script's two albums continuing to climb. Anyone know why Stereophonics are randomly back? I prefer my theory that people are getting confused between Tom Jones and Kelly Jones :P
April 11, 201214 yr Alabama Shakes no1 album - amazing achievement even if they do fall to 2/3 by sunday!! Yes, great to see them enter at No1. Like you I doubt they will hold on, but its good to see regardless! :D
April 12, 201214 yr Im intrigued in a sense with how Madonna will perform this week in the album chart, overall the mdna era seems like its going be a complete disaster. Just browsing and spotted this: Over the years Madonna has broken a record or two, possibly even several. But we imagine she’s not quite so proud of this one; she’s on track to having the biggest second week sales slump in history for her new album MDNA. Reports from the US indicate that sales of the album will drop by 88 per cent compared to the first week it was released. She shifted 359,000 copies of it in week one compared to around 46,000 in week two. MDNA became the biggest selling debut album of 2012 when it hit the shops, however some say her figures were inflated due to some clever sales tactics. Her label and Ticketmaster combined album sales with those of tickets for her upcoming tour – so basically every time someone bought a ticket for her tour, they also got her album either automatically downloaded to their desktop via iTunes or sent in the post to their home. 185,000 copies of MDNA were apparently sold in this way which probably accounts for the massive sales slump which has ensued. That’ll teach Madge for being crafty. Actually no it won’t, she’ll always be crafty http://www.mrpaparazzi.com/ Edited April 12, 201214 yr by munchkin
April 12, 201214 yr Michael Kiwanuka is really underperforming isin't he, his album is looking likely to spend less than 7 weeks in the top 40. Could Adele Re-Climb to number one this week? It will be between her and Nicki I think!
April 12, 201214 yr MDNA is certainly underperforming. That said, i contrast this statement in relation to Madonna herself, while some while attack back and say it is one of the biggest selling albums of the year so far, i believe by Madonna standards themselves the album is a disaster and shows no signs that it will recover as it is highly likely not even a hit single will come from the album. Yes, it may have had huge American sales on opening week but that was gimmick related to and it is the reason she has suffered such a huge decline on week 2.
April 12, 201214 yr I must have missed all the hype around Alabama Shakes - they won't hold on to #1 but a big WHAT? in their general direction for even being there in the mids (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) 'Hold On' was in the iTunes top 100 for a few days a couple of weeks ago but other othan that I've heard absolutely nothing of them. [/oblivious] There has been alot of word of mouth hype and they played in London a month ago - they are in the same vain as kings of leon/black keys with their deep south bluesy sound - cant wait to get the album!!
April 12, 201214 yr Alabama Shakes will drop to around number 3 i believe and Adele and Nicki Minaj will battle for number 1 towards the end of the week, it would in no way surprise me to see Adele back at number 1.

Billboard magazine reported that people were given an option to purchase a copy of the album when they were buying tickets for her concerts and that only purchased copies were counted towards her first weeks sales.
April 12, 201214 yr Madonna is a great pop star. I wish I had such an iconic pop star be big in my lifetime (I know Madonna has been, but I don't think 2005 was exactly the peak of her career ). I've had Britney and Christina I guess, but they're probably not quite in the same league as Madonna was at her biggest.

Maybe they weren't as iconic as Madonna but they've had a massive cultural impact on the pop music scene imo

Rihanna is my favourite pop star, but she's not that iconic. Just lots of really good songs. They don't come close to Madonna (or Britney, Christina or Beyonce, which are the best I've got from my lifetime).
