The OCC have posted on Twitter/Facebook that there's a 'big announcement' at midnight tonight. Interesting. Any speculation?

I wonder if it could be about streaming sites like Spotify being included in the chart? Probably unlikely as airplay isn't even included yet but stranger things have happened, it's all I can think of anyway.
I sincerely hope it's not airplay. Weren't they talking about adding ringtones or something of that ilk to the charts years ago? Could it be something like that? (albeit about 5 years late.)

Knowing them it's probably something stupid like an official #1 album award to go with the singles one.
I doubt it will be streaming (or airplay lol). They said in an interview/statement a couple of months when the US added more streaming that the official UK charts will remain sales only, as it's a sales chart, whilst the US chart is a popularity chart (so they have reason to include all these things like VEVO and airplay in it). They also kept going on about how sales are still increasing so fast, suggesting that the only way they'd ever consider including streaming in the official UK chart would be if sales figures started collapsing.
If the OCC include streaming or airplay, it would make it a lot more difficult to track sales. :( Seriously hoping its just some pointless award. :P

They might do a separate chart calculated in a similar way to the Billboard one I guess (although it would be the most slow-moving chart known to man, the US version has had exactly the same songs in the top 10 for 3 weeks now). Like how they have seperate charts of downloads only and all the genre charts. But I doubt they'd make it become the official chart.

To be honest, I've seen so many "big announcements" like this turn out to be something pointless that nobody cares about, so that's probably the case with this.

They just said it's not about streaming (thank God)

LMAO. You don't like Reggie I guess?

Maybe with all of the reduced older songs making an impact recently, they've decided to have a recurrent chart like Billboard and put all songs over a certain age in that? That'd be controversial.

If it was something to do with TOTP or at least some type of BBC prime time music show then surely that can only be a good thing.

It amazes me how for eg; play 20 seconds of 'I Gotta Feeling' on The Voice and it sells almost 1,000 downloads within a couple of hours.

I hope not - the main draw with the UK chart is that it includes everything bought with very few exceptions.

They already have a 'catalogue chart' for old songs though, it's just that those songs are still allowed to chart on the main chart.

I really hope it's not any of these moves towards a Billboard-esque chart because that'd just be awful. I think the most likely outcome will be either something very bad or completely pointless.

Maybe they are going to add several songs to the list of million sellers. There are songs like Sailing which seem to have been just short for rather a long time.
