Midweek singles update: Wiley still holding off Calvin Harris

Source: MW

Wiley’s Heatwave is looking good for a second week at No.1 in the Official Singles Chart on Sunday.

According to an Official Charts Company Midweek update, the East London grime star’s Heatwave is leading over Calvin Harris Ft Example’s We’ll Be Coming Back (2). Both tracks sold over 100,000 copies upon their release last week.

The Midweek singles chart’s highest new entry comes from four-piece pop rockers Lawson who are looking on track to claim their second Top 5 single of the year.

Taking Over Me (3) is the follow up to debut single When She Was Mine which peaked at Number 4 earlier this summer, and will provide the band with their highest charting single to date if they can hold on to their midweek Number 3 position through until Sunday.

Redlight, who debuted on the Official Chart in January with the Top 20 dancefloor tune Get Out Of My Head, are back with new single Lost In Your Love at Number 5.

Elsewhere, Dizzee Rascal FT Pepper’s Scream is new in at 23, and Icelandic indie folk outfit, Of Monsters And Men are on course to score their first Official Chart Top 40 position with Little Talks.

Brit pop icons Blur are today’s Official Chart Update highest climbers, as Under The Westway climbs 89 places to Number 28. The band are due to close the BT London Live Olympic festival site in Hyde Park this weekend.?

Midweek albums: Plan B back at No.1

Source: MW

Plan B’s Ill Manors is leading a tight albums race, having disloged Conor Maynard at the top of the Midweek chart update.

Maynard’s Contrast today slips into fifth place, behind Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events (Number 2), Maroon 5’s Overexposed (3) and Rihanna’s Talk That Talk (4).

However, less than 600 copies separating the Number 5 and the Number 1 album at the mid-way stage.

There is just one new entry in today’s Official Albums Chart Update Top 40, courtesy of Antony And The Johnsons. The band’s new live album, Cut The World, which was recorded in Copenhagen last September accompanied by the Danish National Chamber Orchestra, looks set to debut at Number 27 on Sunday.

This week’s highest climber is Paloma Faith’s Fall To Grace, up ten places from Number 16 to Number 6, while signature Olympics soundtrack Chariots Of Fire helps composer Vangelis’ Greatest Hits album, The Collection, climb eight places to re-enter the Top 40 at Number 38.

The album chart will be dull :( I'm worried about next week too, where the highest new entries will possibly be Ryan O'Shaughnessy's EP (if it doesn't chart on the singles) and The Midnight Beast.

I just looked on iTunes albums chart, it seems Conor might be #1 when you take the compilations out of the way, if he stays #1 we could be looking at 12k for a #1 album this week or Emeli might just nip it. Also Delilah is at #3, and she sold just over 10k last week, surely she will sell even less this week.

Top 3 singles could end up the same as last week Lawson could just trail off by the end of the week, and I love to see Rudimental at #7 for a 5th week :o

And twitter is your friend for midweeks, just type midweeks in the search option to find any mid info, feel free to search away and share in your own time.

My predictions for the Top 10 Albums:

1 Conor Maynard

2 Emeli Sande

3 Plan B

4 Maroon 5

5 Adele

6 Delilah

7 Ed Sheeran

8 Rihanna

9 Train

10 Mike Oldfield

Whats the worst sales this year for the no1 album - 14k for elton john?? Wonder if we will beat that in the next 2 weeks...could be dire times ahead, a bit like orsons no1 in 2004 for the singles. After the next 2 weeks from the 20/8 onwards, it doesnt seem too bad!

It's the lowest debut sales - Emeli Sande was number one on 13k in June.

Emeli Sande has overtaken Conor Maynard on iTunes. I would prefer Conor to spend a second week at number one - it's not fair for Emeli to have two sets of low sales at number one! :P
I think Plan B or Emeli Sande might have the #1 album this week, hopefully the former.

Surely it's only an embarrassment if it's a new album?

It will be more embarrassing if a 6 month old album returned to number one instead of a new album.

Embarrassing for the state of the British music industry perhaps, but certainly not embarrassing for Emeli herself, which is what you seemed to be suggesting before!

Heatwave at No.1 in midweeks. WBCB at No.2. Separated by 200 sales. Gonna be a close week...

Appearently MDNA's 3rd single (Turn Up The Radio?) is at 83https://twitter.com/d2da2dv2di2dd/status/232841767857299456

I'm sure the really low sales are down to the Olympics, people are staying at home and are not bothering to download online either, I went into town shopping over the weekend and most of the shops were really quiet.

I don't think it will be embarrassing for Emeli, just for the music industry like you said. I said it wouldn't be fair for her to have two sets of low sales at number one.

"MDNA so far a no.37 lead single ... A no.73 follow up .. And the 3rd track at no.83 in the midweeks ..... ? Single 4 ? "

Tragic.

it's a real shame since MDNA is one of her best albums ever... the lead single was average but 'Girl Gone Wild' and 'Turn up the radio' are two of her best singles since 'Hung up', it's bad that Madonna's new singles are struggling to reach the top 75 while there is so many crapp in the UK chart these past few years :puke2: ... that just shows how much the download chart have hurt older artists...

I don't think it will be embarrassing for Emeli, just for the music industry like you said. I said it wouldn't be fair for her to have two sets of low sales at number one.

I'm sure that any of the 3 possible number ones Emeli, Conor and Plan B reach number 1 this week, they are very likely to do so by scoring the lowest selling number 1 of all time & the first number 1 with less than 10 k sold and they will make history :yahoo: ....in a bad way....
