Girls Aloud doing what conventional wisdom said 1D would do last week. 1D still holding up really well at #3 though! I suppose Ed Sheeran usually has great chart runs ('You Need Me, I Don't Need You' didn't but that's completely different sonically to all his other singles) :P

The Lumineers back up to #6, really shocking (in a good way) that this is managing to do so well with almost no support outside the couple of ads it's on - not playlisted by Radio 1, Radio 2 or Capital and not top 50 on radio airplay or top 40 on TV airplay.

It's different because it's his only single which doesn't bore me to death! :P

This is always a sign of a song that could be absolutely massive imo.

 26 Rihanna/ Right Now (feat. David Guetta)

 28 AC/DC- Back To Black. It was inevitable that this would start dropping wasn't it? Not falling down too much though.

 33 Ludacris ft Usher & David Guetta/ Rest Of My Life Was #39 in the chart update. Looking likely to stay for Sunday. Or it will miss out.

 96 The Pogues ft Kirsty MacColl/ Fairytale Of New York also at #105

 135 Wizzard/ I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday 4th leading oldie Xmas song following Mariah, Pogues/MacColl, Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

 154 Wham!/ Last Christmas

197 Shakin' Stevens/ Merry Christmas Everyone Another Xmas oldie into the Top20. Should be more soon though in the next couple of days

Girls Aloud back  #4

Itunes reverted. #8 on my feed.

OMG Can't believe they are down to #8, where are the Alouders? This needs to somehow still go Top 3 officially!
Why do the UK hate girl groups? You hardly get 3 girl groups release around the same time and they've all pretty much underperformed.

It's not only girl groups. Lawson, The Wanted and JLS's latest singles have bombed.

I know I've said this lots of times, but it's not just boy groups and girl groups that have singles do like that. UK artists in general have fast-falling singles (compared to their US counterparts).

I don't think it's a big deal. They'll all be releasing their next single as normal in 2-3 months time. Plus, some of those songs like DNA and Something New are going to sell 200,000+, which is very good.

Ooh! Nice to see Wizzard as high as that already. I swear it usually takes them a bit longer than normal classics to take off. So good to see it get enough of a benefit straight away, more or less. My favourite ever Christmas song.

Last year's Xmas effect was different due to the 59p reductions but going back to 2010 Wizzard were the third Xmas track to enter the top 100 - The Pogues entered first, then Mariah the following week and Wizzard the week after that. (The Pogues entered a week earlier than they did this year, Mariah entered on the same week as this year - so this coming week is roughly equivalent to the week Wizzard entered in 2010, although the dates are obviously shifted by 3 days). Then most of the others entered the week after that, 3 weeks after The Pogues/the equivalent of next Sunday's chart this year.

I hope that makes sense :P

I think Olly might be able to do it. He's got an Xtra Factor performance of an album track and of couse the album being released. He's got This Morning performance of Troublemaker and the album version will soon climb probably making him #1 again (hopefully!)

He has Surprise Surprise on Sunday as well. Hope he makes it 2 weeks at number 1 as he's never managed that before plus he'd be doing the double as his album is nailed on number 1.

Not Giving In was used on adverts for The X Factor and Radio 1Xtra so hopefully that will help it get into the top 10.

02:03 AM EDIT: Rudimental  #10

The adverts worked BRAAAAPPP!!!

This song should really be at #1.

Something new isn't a very good song yet it's currently at number 2, that's not through hate, Little Mix debuted at number 1 with Wings, that's not hate. DNA should have done better and girl band albums don't shift many units but boybands are simply an easier sell to teenage girls for obvious reasons. The Wanted don't sell either, groups struggle in general when you take 1D out of the picture.

My Winter warmer

The song, or Ms Cilme herself?

Exactly.

I'd love to see Die Young go to #1 but all the aspects of its promotion so far points to the song not becoming a big hit.

What promotion?

I seriously hope Die Young doesn't go to number one. It's awful, nothing catchy to it at all.

On that basis, surely it is a dead cert for #1... :P

American white girls that rap-sing about how slutty they are. They even look fairly similar tbh.

IMO Ke$ha is more attractive than Fergie.

What promotion?

That's what I meant - it hasn't had any promotion!
