Sweet Caroline

The new long-awaited definitive single disc compilation of 23 best-loved hits and signature tracks from America's quintessential singer-songwriter is the first Neil Diamond collection to draw from the artist's complete studio discography.

The Very Best of Neil Diamond - The Original Studio Records includes his first pop chartings as a writer/performer for Bang Records in the mid-1960s; his spectacular career-defining hits for Uni/MCA (1968-1972); music from 1980's The Jazz Singer (his 5x platinum-selling soundtrack album on Capitol Records) and studio essentials from a long-running association with Columbia Records that began in 1973 with the Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack album and runs through a pair of Rick Rubin-produced albums: 12 Songs (2005) and Home Before Dark (which became Neil's first Number 1 album on the Billboard 200 in 2008).

The Very Best of Neil Diamond - The Original Studio Recordings includes "Recollections," a revelatory set of liner notes penned by Neil especially for this collection, providing anecdotal detail and behind-the-scenes point-of-view insight into each of the songs.

In his reflections on "Hell Yeah," the track that closes the album, he writes, "'Hell Yeah' is an affirmation of a lifetime spent devoted to music and my attempt to find a personally satisfying life for myself beyond the music. I have that life now but it was a much harder job than I thought possible. Still, well worth all the years and all the tears."

In closing his "Recollections" for The Very Best of Neil Diamond - The Original Studio Recordings, Neil says, "I wish I could personally thank the hundreds of musicians, arrangers, and engineers who, along with the producers, spent long days and nights in studios around the country to make these recordings vibrate and thrill. As a songwriter I can only humbly bow down and thank them all from the depths of my heart for giving wings to my dreams."

Across a musical career spanning nearly five decades, Neil Diamond has sold more than 125 million albums worldwide, with a remarkable track record of 16 Top Ten albums, and 37 Top Ten singles. A Grammy Award-winning artist, Neil Diamond has been inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and is a recipient of the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award. Among Diamond's many other honours, he has received a Golden Globe Award, 12 Grammy nominations and was named the 2009 MusiCares Person of the Year.

Neil Diamond, a 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, was recently announced as a 2011 Kennedy Center Honoree and will be part of the 85th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. - HMV

Something New

Girls Aloud are back with their greatest hits album 'Ten', which s the first time all of Girls Aloud's greatest hits are together on one disc.

The defining UK girlband of the modern pop era, since they debuted with Sound Of The Underground in 2002, Girls Aloud have had 20 top ten singles and four #1s. Each of their five albums have gone platinum or above. In total they have sold over eight million records.

Ten is a collection of the BRIT award-winning group's singles over the last ten years as well as four new songs, which the girls have worked on over the past year.

As well as the comeback single 'Something New', the album boasts another three piping hot servings of pop perfection, including another 'Xenomania' produced-frenetic banger in the shape of Every Now And Then. Fizzy, pleasingly demented instant classic On The Metro is a collaboration with The Invisible Men and DJ Fresh and Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me, meanwhile, is produced by Jim Elliot and written by new singer Maiday.

Just as the band had hoped, all four of the new tracks nestle very comfortably alongside existing hits on the album.

'Ten' is the sound of a succession of extraordinary pop singles each trying to out-do each other, but it also tells the story of a girlband fighting against what was expected of them, and creating something uniquely exciting along the way.

"We recorded an awful lot of new music for this album," Nicola explains. "We didn't want to let people down - but we didn't want to let our past music down either. We knew we had to live up to the greatest hits that would already be on the album.”

Disc two of the deluxe version of the album will be completely decided by the fans as they will be able to vote for the songs they want included. The list of songs they can choose from spans the entire Girls Aloud catalogue from album tracks through to b-sides. - HMV

UK Albums chart - Interesting positions

==================

15 :ne: Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire

21 :ne: McFly - Memory Lane - The Best Of

24 :ne: Kelly Clarkson - Greatest Hits - Chapter One

Aw, was hoping Girls Aloud would have stayed Top 5. :( #9 isn't too bad I guess as there will of course be high sales again this week.
Nice to know Olly Murs follows the charts - perhaps he's on HERE somewhere! :o

I'm calling him out as BuzzLightyear right now :D

Neil Diamond greatest hits doing better than the Girls Aloud one :drama: And why has McFly and Kelly C missed the top 20 with theirs?
Thanks for hosting, the chart show thread team. :)
Hopefully Alicia debuts with ~30k in sales. Would be nice to see it stick around a while and perhaps climb into the top 10 at some point early next year. :)

Why, what'd he say?

Hilarious to see Rod and Buble battling it out for top xmas album honours!!

LOL at Olly Murs thanking other radio stations on Radio 1 then having to take it back. Obviously he knows without Capital jumping on board he wouldn't be #1.
Why, what'd he say?

He was saying about how he followed the midweeks and stuff.

On another note, jfdhgfdkgfdk Tenacious D's Tribute is on the radio!!!!!!!

Girls Aloud comeback record at #9? Is that a **FLUSH** I hear? :cheer:
