I think Gangnam Style will be #1 on iTunes on new year's eve but it wont get the official number 1.

Hopefully Rihanna. Next year will be interesting now Rihanna isn't releasing club bangers as the music scene tends to follow her, will we get a load of 2nd rate 'Diamonds' type songs?

Oh she has plenty of her usual uptempo stuff on her new album ('Right Now', 'Lost In Paradise', 'What Now' - all three would make great singles for me personally). I think she may be trying for her own 'Someone Like You' sort of success. I can see her performing 'Stay' at this years BRITS, thus giving it a boost back into the top 10/20 (obviously depending on where it will be before the show).

 

It may have been number one this week, but that doesn't mean it will be in the first chart of 2013.

But like people have already pointed out, the release for it was very much OA/OS. It had 2 weeks (I think) before it was put on iTunes, for an early release. Radio 1 have B-Listed (? - can't remember from memory) it in time for the "playlist freeze". I can see it being huge in the new year!

 

Also; surely TOTP HAVE to get Psy in to do a performance? It'll not only help Psy get more sales (obviously) but it'll get them viewers!

^ I know what you mean, but in the US last New Years Party Rock Anthem went back to #2 on iTunes (blocked by Sexy and I Know It), after having been in the top 10 for like 25 weeks by that point (and dropping out a couple of times). So clearly that sort of thing is possible. But it probably won't happen to Gangnam Style.

Yeah. Party Rock Anthem went back to #2 on iTunes, but I think that week it went back to like #8 on the official chart as it's airplay was low by New Years lol.

Well the hot 100, yes, but the point is it went back to #2 on iTunes.

The UK's chart IS entirely based on sales though so that's not relevant :P

By gift card week it will have sold around 800k. Would there really be around 60 thousand people who haven't already got it willing to buy it in that first chart week of the year? Yes, there will be a sales increase, a New Year boost, people who danced Gangnam Style at a New Year's Eve party. This coupled with almost everything else falling (and no significant new releases) it will rise a fair few places. But as you say, perhaps no.5 at best.

I could imagine willi.am/Britney, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Taylor Swift (although slim chance for her imo) or even Olly Murs could climb back up!

I'm hoping for Bruno or Rihanna (Bruno because he deserves to reach #1 with a tune as great as LOOH, and Rihanna so she can extend her #1-per-year record to 7 years).

No it's not, some of the artists have recorded two songs so will have one on each show, with some of the performances due to be repeated. There hasn't been a New Year's episode of Top of the Pops since 2009...
