February 7, 201312 yr There's only going to be one HMV still standing in Northern Ireland, and that's the one in the city centre. Oh well, I guess one is better than none.
February 7, 201312 yr It's been announced today that 66 stores will be closing :( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21366009 I'm surprised they've closed all the Edinburgh stores (according to this article they have): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-22...blow-staff.html
February 7, 201312 yr As long as Lakeside, Bluewater, Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich keep their HMV's I will be happy (I think there is 2 or 3 in Norwich so as long as they keep 1 I will be happy) Oh and Brighton, as a place I like to travel to. Yes, there are two in Norwich very close to each other - I'm surprised they both appear to be remaining open.
February 7, 201312 yr Surprised they've shut Edinburgh stores and Glasgow braehead and kept Dundee's shop open!

February 7, 201312 yr My store is safe for now! Surprising to see some of the Top 50 turnover/most profitable stores in that list though! Does this mean that HMV aren't being bought then? I can't see why they would close profitable stores, as surely those would be the ones that would get bought. Edited February 7, 201312 yr by iain
February 7, 201312 yr So, of the three reasonably local branches, they are closing one. Thankfully it is the one in the out-of-town shopping centre, the only one I can't reach in a single bus ride.
February 7, 201312 yr They're closing both the ones I frequent Bracknell and Camberley. Not surprised really they are never really that busy. In Bracknell every time I go in there I am harrassed by each of the staff. I suppose it's all in the name of customer service though and they are out of a job. Sad times.
February 7, 201312 yr Yes! I'm so pleased that my local store isn't on that list. :D It's quite busy though, which is due to the fact that there is a lot more money to spare in my area. Edited February 7, 201312 yr by G R I E F

February 7, 201312 yr Wrexham's HMV was never very good-it's only been around for 8 years as well. Glad to see Chester staying open. For now.

In Bracknell every time I go in there I am harrassed by each of the staff. I suppose it's all in the name of customer service though and they are out of a job. Sad times. Snap. I'll miss Bracknell's though as I often pop in there on the way to/from work. :( I agree with what you say about the staff though, I won't miss the big beardy guy. At least there's still Reading left, but it's not that convenient as I'm hardly ever there.
February 7, 201312 yr Wrexham's HMV was never very good-it's only been around for 8 years as well. Glad to see Chester staying open. For now. I was only in there last week. Shame but even when I lived up there I tended to buy more of my music in the Asda Living about 2 minutes along the road :/ Now Wrexham only have that tiny little independent shop that's at the end of the road I used to live in for music (aside from the supermarkets). I'm glad Brighton's remaining open too but dear god I hope they start stocking new releases again soon, the catalogue stock is starting to deplete and it just seems like a completely pointless shop at the moment.
February 7, 201312 yr Happy that Southend and Lakeside aren't on the list. It's a shame to seem lots of them close though.
February 7, 201312 yr And the administrators quoted as saying they're all loss making stores. Wool pulled over eyes... Fuming I think they've probably shut down some of the most expensive stores to operate, so for example they've shut down all the Edinburgh branches as the local council tax is too high or the rent on the premises is expensive compared with stores in other areas or maybe for some reason staff wages are higher in Scotland compared with other locations, etc. All these factors have been looked at closely by the administrators, and all costs have broken down to the last penny. I hope the administrators sort out a deal with the interested parties for HMV before any more stores gets closed down.

I didn't realise you used to live in Wrexham! I lived not far away when I lived with my parents. I'm still in Wales now but have edged that bit nearer to Chester.
February 7, 201312 yr I didn't realise you used to live in Wrexham! I lived not far away when I lived with my parents. I'm still in Wales now but have edged that bit nearer to Chester. Yeah a couple of years ago, I used to live in Ruabon Road, which is a few minutes away from the town centre. HMV was my weekly Monday morning walk but I rarely bought anything in there. More often than not I'd go to Chester to look as there was a way bigger choice. I was in Chester last week visiting friends and visited Wrexham briefly.

I've been here with zavvi before, and the very reason HMV bought the Teesside store was because it was making a profit (taking all those costs into account), and that continued to the very day. Feels like all the hard work we've put in has just been stood on and discredited.
