December 18, 201213 yr When "Sweet Nothing" was #1, didn't Calvin or Florence post the whole midweek top ten with sales? He'll have received the same information as then. See they're both (obviously) on labels, so I would have assumed that was info the labels just gave them to post. But I suppose with Alex it's possible the middle man was just cut out! December 19, 201213 yr Oh, is it Sony or Universial? They all seem to merge into one half the time.  Still, if JLS are on a major label and they're struggling then you have to ask why aren't they getting the airplay. For me personally, JLS started getting crap the second they released the tragic 'The Club Is Alive'. Ok, it got to no. 1 but I pinpoint that as the turning point in their career and they've never really recovered since. Agreed. I started compiling worst song of the year lists on the back of that The club is alive horror! Then there was the song that sampled the song off Gremlins, Can you hear what I hear, just terrible stuff. But JLS are signed to Epic which is the same label as Olly who has been handled really well. They've also done a good job of getting Paloma Faith on everything and her sales have been respectable. It does come down to who they are managed by as well as a number of other factors but it's not their label.
December 19, 201213 yr I think JC could very front loaded, still hasn't overtaken impossible on iTunes, I can see James Arthur hanging on if his sales are consistent
December 19, 201213 yr Is there gonna be a chart update this week? and if so will it be a 1 hour Christmas special or a normal 30 minute episode? Edited December 19, 201213 yr by Rudolph Escobar
December 19, 201213 yr Oh god she is going to ruin the Brits to isn't she  I better prepare myself for her opening the Brits, closing them and being the performer at the nominations party <_< Oh god, she really is the most over-exposed person there is at the minute. Even more so than Adele. At least she could have one good performance and have lasting sales. Emeli seems to be on some form of programme almost every week. ffs. i thought i was the only one who seemed bothered by this but it seems not! Its like she's the only new artist this year and some people are behaving like she's a talent the likes of which we've never seen. Overexposed barely covers it! between that and been given "Young Alumnus of the Year" by a university she left her Medicine course in because she thought singing songs was more important than helping sicking people (I thought Alumnus involved graduating? !!) and now she is winning SPORTS personality of the year - wtf is she to do with this (ok i know she didnt actually win this)! I can see her dining out on this for a while longer, totally raping the Brits and doing a "Mother's Day slipcover", Easter Edition etc and staying #1 in YTD for a while next year. New Album in time for X-Factor multiple slots again next year. 2nd album will be successful but all the "of the minute" exposure will be on someone else so it will drop a lot from this one (a la Florence and the Machine). Anyhoo, back to the point of this thread, i don't think she will be no1 by end of this week, unless she has more promo it will die off. Have any of the big acts got promo this week? Fun to see JA and TJC so close, a nice battle and James is holding up well for XF winner thanks to it being released the week earlier again this year.

Emeli seems to be on some form of programme almost every week. So what? Fair play to her. In this day and age thats what you have to do to let people know about your music especially without TOTPs so why not expose your album. Th reason why alot of albums flop is because people rarely know much about the artist! If Alex Days on 10k he should have sold enough for a top 40 then even if he sells terribly for the rest of the week. As for the albums i think Buble will still be no1 come sunday. On the singles TJC vs Arthur is still all to play for - we dont know what cd sales are like at the moment! Edited December 19, 201213 yr by steve201
December 19, 201213 yr On the overall HMV best sellers chart James Arthur CD is #2 and TJC #3 - On Amazon its the other way round so still looks as though it's going to be a close battle. Whats no1 then?
December 19, 201213 yr I heard a rumour that Emeli Sande will be singing EVERY song at the Brits this year-this will save The Brits the cost of booking other pop stars to sing their own songs

December 19, 201213 yr Their physicals must be huge! :o If it gets to #1 it will probably dive to the lower end of the top ten next week...definitely nice to have a battle going on this year anyway!
December 19, 201213 yr Apparently other sources suggest that figures are being recounted it's THAT close.....
December 19, 201213 yr Why am I seeing nothing in the media about this battle, I thought the public were supposed to still care about the Xmas #1, and it's closer than ever this year! Extra exposure would lead to more people contributing to the battle to get their favourite to #1! Anyway, if it's neck and neck between James and JC then the momentum must be with James, as JC's sales must be dropping at a faster pace than his if they've only managed to close a gap of 3k having managed probably double what he sold on the Monday, due to his availability on the Sunday too...William Hill have JC as the favourite and James as second favourite at 2/1 which seems like quite a good punt!
December 19, 201213 yr Hillsborough charity single He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother has taken a critical lead over James Arthur’s Impossible in what has become the tightest battle for the Official Christmas Number 1 EVER! The Official Charts Company can confirm that The Justice Collective’s Hillsborough charity single, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, has taken a marginal lead over James Arthur's Impossible today, based on the first three days of sales data. Yesterday, Impossible was just over 3,000 sales ahead of He Ain't Heavy… (based on sales to midnight on Monday), but this morning the positions have flipped, with The Justice Collective’s track taking a 3,400 sales lead (based on sales up until midnight last night). He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother has sold over 109,700 copies so far this week, vs Impossible’ s sales of 106,300. Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot says: "This really is the closest Number 1 battle we can remember - even closer than the legendary 2009 battle between Rage Against The Machine and Joe McElderry. The poll concludes at midnight on Saturday night (December 22), so there is a long way to go yet - but this one looks like going down to the wire." In 2009, Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name and Joe McElderry's The Climb mounted the most exciting battle for Christmas Number 1 yet seen. But the two records were never closer than 8,000 sales from each other, with RATM extending their final lead to almost 52,000 by the end of the week - 503,000 to 451,000. The Official Christmas Number 1 will be revealed on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart Show with Reggie Yates and on www.officialcharts.com this Sunday (December 23). Tune into Radio 1 at 4pm today for the Official Chart Update with Greg James who will be counting down the Official Singles Chart Top 40 as it stands at the half way point of this exciting Christmas Number 1 week. December 19, 201213 yr William Hill have JC as the favourite and James as second favourite at 2/1 which seems like quite a good punt! I made a small bet on James getting the #1 when he was 7/2 on Sky Bet. Hope he can do it even more now :kink:
December 19, 201213 yr Impressive sales by James so far. TJC will continue to extend their lead i think so it's not much of a battle.

I always remember in 2009 on the saturday the Sun had a front page of Joe throwing a dart at Rages' picture which alot of people said turned the race lol. The press were very pro XF during that race! December 19, 201213 yr Impressive sales by James so far. TJC will continue to extend their lead i think so it's not much of a battle. Hmmm I don't think so. TJC's track is new this week and the multipliers for start of week -> end of week for new tracks are less than for established tracks, even if that track is only one week old. I can't call it, I think James might be back ahead in the Friday mids but Saturday shopping (physicals) might just swing it back to TJC.
December 19, 201213 yr JC have it in the bag now, James was only ahead because he had an extra day of sales. JC added 6k more than James on Tuesday.
