I'd say We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, it must have sold a lot more.

We are Never.. is around 485,000

Love Story is around 383,000 so We Are is definitely her best selling single so far

I Knew U were could be her best one, currently around 305,000..

You can't really compare 2012 sales to 2009 sales. They're higher now.

If you use sales to compare, then Scream & Shout is bigger than Toxic.

I think on most metrics "Scream & Shout" is now bigger than "Toxic" anyway

527. Ellie Goulding - Explosions

'Explosions' is currently being used on an ITV advert, so hopefully this can climb up the chart a lot! :D

My Life needs to hurry up and get that #1!

YES PLEASE! :cheer:

Yeah maybe, but at the time Toxic was obviously much bigger than S&S is right now, and Scream & Shout won't go down as a pop classic.

No, I can't see how "Toxic" was *ANY* bigger than S&S is right now, let alone "obviously much bigger", and neither of them is anything close to a pop classic.

"Scream & Shout" has already had as many weeks in the Top 3 as "Toxic" did in the entire top 10.

Toxic is definitely a pop classic!
What? Only on Buzzjack could I see a comment stating that 'Toxic' is not a pop classic! I think even Britney's "haters" would agree that it is a classic

That depends on how many songs you call "classic". I would restrict it to a couple of hundred or so over the years, and "Toxic" would not be even close to that list. The only two Britney Spears songs that would make it would be "Baby One More Time" and "Oops I Did It Again".

Pffft. Toxic is the second best known Britney song (after Baby One More Time) and is considered by many to be her classic song.

And I am saying this as a casual fan.

Remember we're looking at *Pop* classics. Toxic is one of the most defining songs from one of the biggest Pop icons ever. Of course it is nothing less than a classic, despite how much it sold.

But even in more general terms, Toxis ranks among the most classic songs ever recorded whatever way you look at it.

Is Beyonce's 'Crazy In Love' not a classic as it's "only" sold 400k in total? When judging classics, sales should not be brought into it. It's more down to the cultural impact at the time of release, imo. 'Scream & Shout' is too similar to many other songs to become a classic in the same vein as 'Toxic', 'Crazy In Love' and others. Classic songs set the trend, they're iconic and memorable for whatever reason.
She went to no2 with love story - her first hit in 2009. This prob wont make no1 unless she is over on tv to promo it, it barely sold 40k this week at its current peak position!!

I wouldn't call 49k "barely selling 40k" lol :P

And I have to agree with the majority, it might not have sold much but I would definitely put 'Toxic' as one of Britney's classics. Even 'Everytime' is probably more highly regarded than 'S&S'.

New Entries:

7. My Life (feat. Eminem & Adam Levine) [Clean] - 50 Cent

10. My Life (feat. Eminem & Adam Levine) [Explicit] - 50 Cent

45. Black Chandelier - Biffy Clyro

70. Wraith - Peace

418. Let It Go - The Neighbourhood

1076. On Top of the World - Jack Neville

1190. Paper Heart - Lucy May

1302. We Are - Hollywood Undead

1303. Thundermonster - Biffy Clyro

1483. Cristina - Teleman

My Life is so mediocre, but i'd probably rather it be #1 over Scream & Shout. Shame The Neighbourhood are heading downward, but it was inevitable - was nice to see them get in the Top 500 at least, hopefully they'll get a mini-breakthrough with "Sweater Weather" [/wishfulthinking]

Anyone think Everything Everything could get into the top 40 tomorrow? The album will likely debut at #1 (picking up my copy on Tuesday :P) but I hope the single can also perform moderately well.
Taylor, for the love of God, get to #1 - don't want Mr Sellout, 50c (only Eminem is OK) or Slappy Spears #1

Grow up.

Toxic is a pop classic; how someone could say it isn't is beyond me. Scream & Shout..... time will only tell but I don't think its even near the greatness of the latter.

Do we think 50 Cent will reach the summit? I somehow doubt he will but wouldn't be surprised.

The problem is that sales are easy to identify and indesputable (in many cases), cultural impact is far harder to assess and varies greatly between people in perception. Far better (in my opinion) is to argue that "Toxic" was one of the top 10 best selling singles of 2004 and must therefore be admitted that it made a massive impact on the general public relative to its time. :D

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Album should go Top 10 at the very least. I'm Still gutted Biffy ain't Top 40 yet, hopefully they will rise throughout the week and with the EP Top 10, I'm hoping for at least a Top 40 hit for these guys.

 42. Black Chandelier - Biffy Clyro

50 Cent now has both versions top 10 (clean still #7, explicit #10). Expect the clean version to drop out pretty soon though. Hopefully not letting in 'Clown'...
