As much as I want Olly to win one he probably won't get any again because everyone clearly still has a grudge against him after last year. And no one on the panel will vote for him cause they're such pretentious pro-Adele snobs.

Or maybe they will vote for someone else because they think that someone is a better artist? If they really had a grudge against him, he wouldn't even be nominated.

But without wishing to go off topic the criticism that was thrown at him after he performed last year really upset him - it was covered in his 'Life on Murs' documentary. I'm not being biased here but he gets more flack than anybody who's been launched from 'The X Factor'. One Direction have it easy, nothing they do gets criticized despite they fact they don't write their own songs or have any say in what they're about. Olly's actually in it for the music and yet he's written off at every turn by people who think he's not 'cool'. He's worked bloody hard this year and produced an even better album. Why shouldn't he get the recognition?

That is in your opinion though.

I'm sorry that he got flak but he wouldn't have got nominated if the Brit Awards panel were that biased against him.

I wanted Little Mix to win Best Breakthrough because they were the best breakthrough of 2012 - that is in my opinion though and you feel happy that he has the opportunity to win two awards in the first place.

He wouldn't have been given a performance slot either.

He deserves his nomination on sales but hope he doesn't triumph as he is in my opinion the least talented of the group.

What crap. He's portrayed in the media as one of the most likeable X Factor graduates and gets nowhere near the stick that One Direction get, nor Cher Lloyd, nor JLS, nor Leona despite her having no personality to take offence with. He's been rewarded for his success with nominations and even a performance last year, which is more than you can say for most.

It says a lot that I can't even remember who performed last year. I won't be watching this year I think.
Do I sense some bitterness in this post? :o :kink:

The Brit Awards panel usually vote for the best artists, just because you think that Olly is good, it doesn't mean that everyone else will. He should be happy and grateful that he's even nominated to be honest.

They usually vote for whoever has sold the most albums.

No they don't, or The Streets or Paul Weller to name but two wouldn't have won the award.

But Griff

WHAT ABOUT ALT-J :(

I too think the nomination for Amy Winehouse is quite baffling. No disrespect or anything, but could they not think of anyone else? I sure can; Ellie Goulding, Marina & the Diamonds, Rumer, Lianne La Havas, Amy McDonald, Ren Harvieu...

WHAT ABOUT ALT-J :(

:o :o :o :o

I'm sorry for being such a FLOP FAN to forget about Alt-J! :snif: I don't know what I'm going to do to recover from this low. :(

(Little Mix come marginally close though :kink:)

And I agree with you about the Amy Winehouse nomination. It actually makes me immensely angry that Amy Winehouse has not released anything of musical merit in the last 12 months and gets nominated, and Ellie Goulding has released an exceptional album that is one of the best of 2012 and does not get nominated. -_-

The British Album of the year couldn't be any more open, I think Emeli will get it but the Brit Academy will love Alt-J, Plan B, Mumford & Sons and Paloma (who is definitely the underdog in this category).

I personally don't think anybody else stands a chance other than Emeli sadly. I'd be pleasantly surprised if something else did though!

And, what the hell was that Olly thing about on page 4? The point I was going to make was covered by Charlie though really, most specifically with Cher Lloyd who got 10000x more stick than Olly. Of any of the big artists who have come from X Factor, I'd probably say Olly gets the LEAST stick. He got a performance slot last year, which many of the X Factor alumni don't get due to association with the show - the reason he was criticised slightly after his last BRIT performance is because he was bloody awful, but that aside... he gets very little stick. BIZARRE comment, especially seeing as he IS nominated.

I guess this is the right place to post this? I couldn't see any existing threads for some reason when I searched except for in the Robbie corner?

The nominations are in, here: www.brits.co.uk! Interesting categories this year seem to be Best British Group and International Male. Less interesting ones are International Group and Global Success. Robbie Williams gets a surprise nomination and there's no Outstanding Contribution this year.

Also, I thought I'd celebrate on my blog by taking a spin through some of the award ceremonies of the past - see here if you're interested in sharing the journey: musicforstowaways.wordpress.com

Who's got the "Lifetime Achievement Award" or whatever it's called nowadays? Have they dropped that altogether?

Nope, it went to Blur last year. Although I'm not so sure anymore because they announced Blur's win in December...

I think it's now done every 2 years. Robbie Williams won it in 2010, Blur won it last year and no-one did in 2011.

Ahhh. That'd make sense. Has David Bowie ever received it? I'm sure he'll be a shoe-in for it next year, if he hasn't? :P
