I just looked at the list of 2006 #1's and, honestly speaking, out of twenty-four possibilities, I could only see at best four titles worth any sort of undeniable classic status. Certainly a much better ration than 2005, but nothing really Earth-shattering.

To be fair I'll list those.

And then there the up-for-debate ones:

Ne-Yo, "So Sick"

Sandi Thom, "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Head)"

Nelly Furtado, "Maneater"

Lily Allen, "Smile"

Razorlight, "America"

My Chemical Romance, "Welcome to the Black Parade"

I'd say Beyoncé "Déjà Vu" would fit in that section too! It's not much of a radio staple (or one that she performs a lot anymore), but I hear it at a lot of parties!

^^ Maybe, but it featured THE WOBBLE, so it might be one of those cases where a seemingly forgettable record actually holds many keys to what would become the future.

bound 4 da bound bound 4 da reload

That is an INCREDIBLE song and I will not tolerate any hate towards it.

Kylie is definitely one of her least popular hits and is only known for being a "she should have had a different song at number 1" sort of song.

I agree, I'd much rather I Believe in You reach number one than Slow (which it would have done had it been released a week or two before the album! :arrr: )

Quite a few from late 1996/early 1997:

Robson & Jerome - What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted*

Peter Andre - I Feel You (already mentioned)

Boyzone - A Different Beat

Dunblane - Knockin' On Heaven's Door*

Blur - Beetlebum (can't say I remember how this one goes, but others will disagree)

LL Cool J - Ain't Nobody*

U2 - Discotheque (same comment as Blur)

Obviously the asterisked ones are at least recognisable due to being covers, but I'm sure the chart-topping versions are not particularly well-remembered.

"Nasty Girl" and "Wonderful"....both very forgotten songs, again can anyone hum a note of both?
I can. :(

I'm finding this thread depressing, because I seem to be liking a lot more of these "forgotten chart toppers" than I care to admit! Some really good songs in here for me! Although, I can see why others may find them "forgettable", I guess.

That Chinese line made it clear to me who this user is :P
Cover Drive 'Twilight' has got to be one of the most forgotten chart toppers of recent times along with the majority of McFly's

I love so many forgotten #1's, I've got to be Green Light's biggest fan, it was one of my top five favourite songs of 2010! That bassline was insane!

There are probably more forgotten than classic #1's from the mid 90s-mid 00s era, and 2010 seemed to be full of them too for some reason. Anybody got any example of 'forgotten chart toppers' that were multi week #1's? I always forget that Start Without You managed more than a week at #1, I never think of it as one of Alexandra's big hits at all, it always completely slips my mind

Start Without You is very much NOT forgotten. If anything it slaughtered her career!
I look back and think HOW did that song get to #1, for such a previously pretty well respected label cash cow of an artist to put out an Um Bongo jingle as a single, it was just verging on insanity
'Start Without You' hate will not be tolerated God damn it! I still really love it. :drama:

...too soon? :P

lol at you putting the current #1 on this list

Oh God. Now one of my favourite bands are getting thrown into the mix. Well, I am notorious for liking "some crap".
