I'm a massive Saturdays fan, but I never really expected these sort of sales from them, ever.

I think it's a mixture of things. They could be benefiting greately from a '#1 effect' (if that does ever exist). Their TV show on E! has seen huge ratings for their channel, fending off The Kardashians. They've been in the press a lot regarding their debut in America too. Who knows.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what was the biggest first week opening sales for a girl group? I think I remember reading that Little Mix got to #1 with Wings, with around 100k or something like that?

Wings did a bit less than 107k, yes.

If The Saturdays can beat that, it would be amazing. Although I could definitely see them missing it by a little bit (and doing like 102k).

Wow they are amazing sales! This really is outdoing all expectations I had for this especially as I thought no one would wanna know given they'd been away in US for so long. This is probably the best performing single of theirs since 'All Fired Up'...I'd be really made up for them if they did it and held on until Sunday but even if they don't that's still amazing sales for them. Nice one girls!

Their cover of Cannonball did twice as much as that - can't remember if it beat Girls Aloud's opening sales for Sound of the Underground. Not sure what the record first week sales for a girl band is, but I suppose All Saint's Never Ever may have the highest weekly sale since they have the best selling girl group single(?) Perhaps Jay could shine some light on the query. :P

I'm fairly certain that The Spice Girls have the biggest selling opening sales of a girl band single

Two Become One sold 429,000 when it debuted at number 1

It surely has to be the Spice Girls. 2 Become 1 did over 400k, but they racked up a few first week sales north of 300k.

Also, isn't Wannabe the best selling girl group song too?

Yes, although its quite close

[44] WANNABE - Spice Girls (1996) 1,330,000

[49] NEVER EVER - All Saints (1997) 1,310,000

I thought 'Sound of the Underground' shifted about 210k in its first week didn't it? As far as I'm aware GA are still the first all British girl group to debut at number one though (B*Witched were first regardless of nationality)

I thought Never Ever had overtaken Wannabe, although that may have just been because there are two sale figures for Wannabe which the OCC/Music Week seem to swap between.

#NP @TheSaturdays! #WhatAboutUs is their first ever @BigTop40 number one & the fastest selling single of the year so far #Proud! James Barr

God I hope not, Wings is infinitely better imo. Having said that, I'm really pleased for the Sats looking likely to get their first number 1. :)

Gosh!!! :o

I knew The Saturdays have had a massive lead on iTunes but I was taking it as benefitting from a low sales week and that they were only heading for 80k tops for the week with JT selling around 45k.

I gave 'What About Us' another listen and it's not as bad as I gave it credit for earlier in the week.

LOVING on your signature - famous

I can remember your first reviews of the track sometime last year, saying something like they had "found their 'Only Girl'". I laughed it off, sort of (but was hoping it was somewhat true - despite me having a bit of a dislike towards OG(ITW)). You couldn't be more right really, could you? :o Very pleased though.
How much do you guys think The Sats will have shifted yesterday for todays update? Around 15k?

From Popjustice:

From the info I've just been sent, they've extended their lead over JT by about 4k.

He's added 9000 to take him to 31255, the Sats did an extra 13k (slightly less than I hoped I must say) and sit on 65100.

Still brilliant though

The Saturdays success is insane in comparison to their previous records, i never saw this coming.

Thank iain! Nice little sales information!

I'm glad the Sats are selling so well, I do like 3-4 songs from them (incl. What About Us)

Thanks, I knew they drop off pretty heavily by mid week, 13k sounds about right for yesterday, my estimate was around 15k, wasn't that far off, they should do around 10 to 12k for today and tomorrow, they could just scrape over 105k or under in the end.

I hope that poster didn't mean musically. :puke:
