March 18, 201313 yr Author Midweek Charts: Timberlake has 20/20 vision for top spot Source: MW by Paul Willams Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience is outselling its nearest rival in the UK by nearly four copies to one as it shapes up to become his third chart-topping solo album. The album has already reached nearly 60,000 copies so far this week, according to the Official Charts Company, with fellow RCA release The Next Day by David Bowie heavily behind it in second place with around 15,000 sales achieved. Timberlake previously topped the chart in 2002 with first solo set Justified and then in 2006 with follow-up Future Sex/Love Sounds, the latter selling more than 90,000 copies in its first week. Bowie, who last Sunday achieved his first chart-topping UK album in nearly 20 years, sees sales of The Next Day drop 78% on the week, while Polydor's Les Miserables soundtrack makes a similar gain to lift it 10-3 on the midweeks. Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events drops 3-4 and fellow Virgin album Bad Blood by Bastille falls 4-5, while there is a one-place decline to 5 for Atlantic signing Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox. Two other brand nes albums join The 20/20 Experience among the Top 10 sellers at this stage of the week with Sude's Bloodsports at 7 and Billy Bragg's Tooth & Nail at 9. Both albums look likely to deliver significantly better first-week chart positions compared to their predecessors. Suede's album, on their own Suede label, is their sixth studio set in total and first since 2002's Columbia-issued A New Morning, which peaked at 24 - the previous four albums had delivered a trio of No 1s and a No 3 peak. Bragg's Tooth & Nail on Cooking Vinyl follows Mr Love & Justice, which made it to 33 in 2008. Completing the Top 10 at this stage of the week, Stereophonics' Graffiti On The Train on Stylus/Ignition drops 6-8, while RCA act Pink's The Truth About Love falls 8-10. Another nine brand new albums presently register among the week's 40 top sellers, led at 13 by 4AD act Daughter's debut set If You Leave and at 16 by Hadouken's third album and first away from Atlantic, Every Weekend, which is released on the Surface Noise label. Other new arrivals come from V2's Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Island's Woodkid, Double Six's Steve Mason, Blurose's Alex Day, Sub Pop's Low, the Weathermaker label's Clutch and Marti Pellow on the BK label. The Saturdays are virtual certainties to score their first ever UK No 1 single on Sunday with the Polydor-issued What About Us featuring Sean Paul selling more than twice as many copies as RCA act Justin Timberlake's Mirrors in second place. The Saturdays' current UK peak is 2, achieved by their Comic Relief Depeche Mode cover Just Can't Get Enough and by Forever Is Over, both in 2009. What About Us has led attempts by The Saturdays this year to break the States where they are subject to a reality TV show on E! called Chasing The Saturdays and have made a string of TV appearances, including on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Chelsea Lately. Timberlake's drop from 1-2 comes despite sales of Mirrors rising 16% week-on-week, while sales of Pink's RCA single Just Give Me A Reason featuring fun's Nate Ruess are up 12% as it holds at 3. Bruno Mars' Atlantic track When I Was Your Man remains at 4 and the Virgin-issued Pompeii by Bastille at 5, while One Direction's Syco single One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) drops 2-6 after having a late surge last week thanks to the group's Comic Relief appearance on BBC One. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's Thrift Shop featuring Wanz on the Macklemore label holds at 7, while Hollywood/Polydor act Bridgit Mendler's Ready Or Not continues at 8. The Island/PMR-issued White Noise by Disclosure featuring AlunaGeorge progresses 10-9 to swap places with Avicii Vs Nicky Romero's Positiva/Virgin single I Could Be The One. Outside the Top 10 there are new entries from B-Unique/RCA's Kodaline, Boom Ting's Jakwob featuring Maiday, Bannatyne Music's Reconnected and EMI's 30 Seconds To Mars. March 18, 201313 yr I fear Bon Jovi are going to have at least a 10 place drop come Sunday. :( David Bowie should remain Top 3 - both versions reclimbing on iTunes. The final position in the Top 3 will probably be either Bastille or Emeli Sande, most likely the latter. Daughter will be looking at a Top 10 placing and Les Miserables OST will reclimb due to the release of the deluxe version.
March 18, 201313 yr I think a top 3 of Justin, Les Mis and Bowie/Emeli in that order. Bowie should remain top 5 at least but predicting a huge dropoff from last week. Really hope Daughter's album can make the top 10 but iTunes isn't always an indicator, I remember Mallory Knox's album went top 5 on iTunes for example, so I won't hold my breath for that one.
March 18, 201313 yr This is how the Amazon Top 10 looks like: 01. David Bowie 02. Justin Timberlake 03. David Bowie 04. Les Miserables 05. Suede 06. Now 84 07. Bastille 08. Emeli Sande 09. Bon Jovi 10. Justin Timberlake Not sure how good of an indication to the chart Amazon is (I'm sure HMV was a better reflection), but it must be the better option out of all music stores now for albums. Daughter isn't in the Top 40 there, so you might be right (although it is probably likely to manage Top 20 so long as it doesn't start plummeting on iTunes). You're probably correct on Les Miserables OST returning to the Top 3 - I did think Top 5 was likely - as I wouldn't be surprised if David Bowie dropped to 20k-30k. That would no doubt mean Emeli Sande would be ahead of him too since she seems to have very stead decreases.
March 19, 201313 yr Oh yeah the Sats have physicals as well so I'm expecting near or over 100k. Who'd have thought that for them. :o
March 19, 201313 yr Author On twitter https://twitter.com/colonelstewart nick stewart @colonelstewart justin Timberlake at no1 in early midweeks .Big number off pre ore-orders and 1st day sales
March 19, 201313 yr So what, they'll probably sell no more than 500 CDs. Would matter more if JT was close to surpass them.
March 19, 201313 yr On twitter https://twitter.com/colonelstewart It is a good album, good for him. Love Pusher Lover Girl.
March 19, 201313 yr So what, they'll probably sell no more than 500 CDs. Would matter more if JT was close to surpass them. They sold 3,000 signed CD's off their website I think.
March 19, 201313 yr They sold 3,000 signed CD's off their website I think. Really? That's impressive then.
March 19, 201313 yr They may have signed that many CDs*, but that doesn't mean they've sold that many, yet. The signed CD is still available to buy, therefore they've signed more than they've sold so far. * Where did the 3000 figure come from by the way?
March 19, 201313 yr Author They sold 3,000 signed CD's off their website I think. I think that's the amount of CD singles that have been signed, not sold.
March 19, 201313 yr Talia @Trixie The midweeks gap between #1 and #2 is MENTALRyan Love @RyanJL First midweeks have made me *very* happy for five ladies. #whataboutus Neil Ransome @NeilRansome Looking through the midweeks, Saturdays are SMASHING IT with the new single! March 19, 201313 yr https://twitter.com/oneofthosefaces/status/...979788786290688 It's like, 30k copies ahead. There ya go.
March 19, 201313 yr Nice lead for them. I think it's as good as over already. Very good for them! I'm gonna presume Justin is on about 20k and that they have 50k. Should work out to about 110k for the week for them and 60k-65k for JT. :D
