You might be right actually also Adele was really popular the same time as Ed Sheeran. Chart music definitely seems less appearance and visual based now than it was in say, 2010. A lot of the artists credited to many of the biggest hits of the year, people don't really know what they look like (in Daft Punk's case, even when you actually see them, you don't see their face ). And music videos definitely seem a lot simpler and more creative now, which is also something Ed Sheeran (and Adele's) videos were. I think videos like Disturbia or The Sweet Escape would be looked down on as desperate and try-hard today.

Then again I guess the more recent trend of simplistic music videos is a lot to do with the recession. With everyone struggling the world over, it would be highly frowned upon if some a-list star spent millions on a music video so a lot of them are very low key now, or you get one decent video per era, usually for the lead single.

Good to see Biffy Clyro in the Top 100 with Opposite & it's 59p too :D Hope that can push it up, would be good to see this become a Top 40 hit at least. Does anyone know if there's any planned promotion for it soon? If Ho Hey can be a hit, so can Opposite :P

they have various European festival tours and some support slots with Muse in Europe in the next week so I'd say it's unlikely. There is some free time but I don't think they will be that bothered about chart positions

wouldn't be like Warner to make a complete mess of promotion for a single though, abysmal job they did of Biblical which had much more chart potential than anything off Opposites. Blatantly waiting for Reading and Leeds to jump the album up the charts rather than actually doing some promotion with the band

Darn! I was hoping maybe a performance of Graham Norton or Alan Carr would of done the trick, I thick Opposite could do well if given a proper push by Warner as the acoustic soft rock sound does well in the charts at the moment, but as you say a band like Biffy aren't interested in the singles chart sadly. I don't think Reading & Leeds do much for albums, so Warner are kidding themselves if they think otherwise!

helped Only Revolutions to jump to it's peak position of 3 when they were shown on BBC3 a few years ago at Reading and Leeds, not even the full performance either

this time around, they'll headline the Sunday night so most of the full show will be shown

According to Lee Thompson on Twitter who is a Music Manager at BT TV, 'I Love It' will now be released on June 23rd!!!! :w00t: Really hope it's true!! Popjustice has retweeted he tweet if you want to find it.

They should have just left it as it was this late in the game, if they were going to pull it forward they should have done that weeks ago. Like it's going to make a difference now.

Anyway, hopefully this means John Newman could be #1 after all :D Icona Pop only getting 1 week at #1 would be fabulous.

In other news:

 29. I Love It (I Don't Care Remix) - Remix Chix

Looks like the actual Icona Pop version will be the sixth different version to enter the top 100 (after Loreen Harris, Venus Palermo, Glee Cast, Remix Junkies and Remix Chix).

 91. Don't Think They Know (feat. Aaliyah) - Chris Brown

Erm.

I'd like to think that the "I'm On A Boat" video put off a lot from doing anything extravagant as well, but probably not.

Actually, it should :

1. Robin Thicke's sales should have slipped enough to be beatable.

2. It should thwart The Wanted (if they weren't going to be anyway).

I meant to its overall sales/longevity (it'd be more or less guaranteed #1 either way).

I don't really like Love Me Again but I'm glad I Love It is being released on Sunday instead, so it can at least have one week at #1 (I think John Newman would have beat them anyway, but I can see I Love It selling more regardless) otherwise I think it would have ended up a bit of a Moves Like Jagger.
I really hope it is true. They need to be #1 and TW need to be as far away from it as possible. It speaks volumes that their song has been snubbed by radio 1.

I'm not sure why either would be affected by bringing it forward a week?

'Young And Beautiful' is back up at 43 after floundering at the bottom of the top 100, anyone know what caused the spike?

I don't know how much it will affect their album this time around. They headlined Radio 1's Big Weekend and so their full set was shown on BBC 3 but they didn't receive a great boost from it.

I think it was played on TOWIE last night.

By the sounds of it, Icona Pop were too scared to go up against her! :basil:

But seriously, I am a bit annoyed it's been brought forward a week (if true)! I was looking forward to a genuine, close chart battle! :(

We'd have broken the record for the number of posts in a weekly topic I think with Icona Pop, John Newman and The Saturdays!
I just checked out this song, and was *not* impressed. The guy has an incredibly annoying voice!

Surprise Surprise

Bye Bye Robin Thickle i guess!

So how many pages long will the iTunes thread be next week? 100?
