I still personally think John will get the #1, but both will sell over 120k and end up 2 of the biggest sellers of the year easily! Icona Pop will sell more overall I think though despite possibly not peaking at #1. I love both songs, its a shame that one of them will miss out on the #1!

Their pre-order has done ten times better than Jason Derulo's? It's been top 200 since been putting up for sale, unlike Jason who entered the top 200 in the last two weeks. The Wanted's EP is also doing incredibly well.

I think The Wanted will easily pass 115,000 now. It's airplay has been shockingly massive.

252. Rihanna feat David Guetta - Right Now

266. Leanne Mitchell - Pride

Leanne Mitchell nearly having as much success as Rihanna! Who'd have thought it? :D

lol. I'm surprised Right Now isn't doing any better. I still think it was a silly single choice tbh. You'd think her label would see Blurred Lines selling 190,000 a week and see Live It Up charting at #15 or whatever, and realize that Right Now isn't the best choice from the album. I think something like Jump of Loveeeeeee Song would do better. I think Right Now can peak in the top 10 eventually though.

Tom Odell's likely advancement from #11 (midweek position) into the T10 in place of Leah McFall means that Arctics' will be pushing out Taylor Swift if anything this week.

Huh? How does that work, when Taylor Swift is ahead of Tom Odell on the midweek update AND still ahead of him on iTunes? Or am I missing something/misunderstanding?

A lot of my friends seem to be only discovering I Love It since a couple of weeks ago, yet I've heard no mention of John Newman's song from anyone outside Buzzjack yet!

 44. I Love It (I Don't Care Remix) - Remix Chix

Single EP pre-orders (album chart):

 27. Love Me Again - John Newman

 53. I Love It (feat. Charli XCX) - Icona Pop

John Newman really starting to get promisingly high on pre-orders - I still can't see him beating Icona Pop but it's looking like a guaranteed huge first week seller.

But there is no sign of them getting as high as Jason did in the week before his release where sales start to become more substantial compared to the bottom of the top 200. I do think they will do very well, but I still think they will only get around 100k-110k and just miss out on beating Robin who will do 110k-120k (we'll be able to predict more once we know how much his sales drop this week).

I dunno. I'm fully expecting John Newman to be number 1 with about a 5k difference. It's going to be really close though I think! The closest battle we've had for a while I think!
I hope John Newman is no1 that week, his voice is stunning! I don't like Icona Pop it sounds like a crap Girls Aloud song!!

It will be very close but I think John Newman will just about snatch it, I still think Icona Pop will be hurt slightly by all those fakes - I know it didn't really happen to Payphone, but IIRC I don't actually think that had any real competition for number 1 at the time it was released. I know that doesn't account for its strong overall chart run and I think I Love It will still be a big selling hit, but when they're up against a song that's performing stronger on pre-orders and unaffected by fakes thus far, they'll have a bit of a problem.

THAT SAID Icona Pop is pretty much all over the radio and I don't think I've actually heard Love Me Again yet on there, It'll be an interesting one.

The week John Newman's song gets released (hopefully).

I just checked out this song, and was *not* impressed. The guy has an incredibly annoying voice!

IMO Icona Pop will wipe the floor with him. :)

It looks like RT will be over 100k again this week, but the opposition is starting to get significantly closer...

Maroon 5 had 'no competition' because they opened on enormous sales (140k+ IIRC). There may have also been no real competition but they'd have walked #1 almost any week with those sales.

(Just reminded myself of the week 'Payphone' and 'Don't Wake Me Up' were the top 2 - must be the worst top 2 ever by a long way :puke:)

Capital are actually playing 'Love Me Again' quite a lot from my experience, but they're also playing 'I Love It' quite a lot.

This is incredibly shallow of me, but my major problem with him and Sam Smith and really all the male singers coming out right now, is they're not much to look at :(

Edit: No one DARE post this as the Tom Kay of the week with my photo underneath :(

I wonder if Sam Smith's next single will be bigger after the success of La La La? I thought his previous single was great, but it didn't really do anything in the charts.

lol yeah that's a pretty bad top 2. I remember that Chris Brown song was painful to listen to. In the chorus it was like one note playing really, really loud with him screaming over the top sounding like a robot. What a joke. Maroon 5 have had a lot of success since their comeback in the charts, but I really have no idea who's buying those songs. Moves Like Jagger I can kind of understand since it's probably one of the biggest radio airplay hits of all time, but honestly, if I didn't follow the charts and didn't listen to the radio, I don't think I'd know any of their recent songs.

Yeah Capital are definitely playing Love Me Again. They actually played quite early on as well, I was so shocked the first time I heard it!

It's the 'Ed Sheeran effect'. People have realised they don't need to look typically 'hot' to have success and all of a sudden loads of less than photogenic stars are appearing  I'm glad, the music industry has always been so shallow and it should be talent over appearance prevailing, not the other way round. There's hope for me yet :P

You might be right actually also Adele was really popular the same time as Ed Sheeran. Chart music definitely seems less appearance and visual based now than it was in say, 2010. A lot of the artists credited to many of the biggest hits of the year, people don't really know what they look like (in Daft Punk's case, even when you actually see them, you don't see their face ). And music videos definitely seem a lot simpler and more creative now, which is also something Ed Sheeran (and Adele's) videos were. I think videos like Disturbia or The Sweet Escape would be looked down on as desperate and try-hard today.

Good to see Biffy Clyro in the Top 100 with Opposite & it's 59p too :D Hope that can push it up, would be good to see this become a Top 40 hit at least. Does anyone know if there's any planned promotion for it soon? If Ho Hey can be a hit, so can Opposite :P

And then there's Miley Cyrus showing how shy and retiring she is in the video for We Can't Stop :P

This is incredibly shallow of me, but my major problem with him and Sam Smith and really all the male singers coming out right now, is they're not much to look at :(

 I agree, but there are a few hot guys in the top 100 atm - Robin Thicke, Olly Murs (of course ), Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake and Danny O'Donoghue to name some but they're all established! Mike Ward off The Voice is strangely pretty hot though (if absolutely NOTHING on his cousin Shayne) :P

(turning iTunes into celeb crushes oops)

But music is definitely getting less sexualised. Of course there's videos like Blurred Lines, We Can't Stop etc. but also singers like Ed Sheeran, Tom Odell and Passenger are having hits.
