I didn't think LaserLight was TOO bad. This is completely unlistenable though, worst Jessie J song by a MILE. I genuinely really like almost all of her other songs too ... although she was best in her initial first era. Do It Like A Dude, Price Tag, Who You Are and Nobody's Perfect were all great!

I find Who's Laughing Now to be her most listenable track these days tbh, unpopular as that may be but it didn't have the same level of overplay. Can't say I'm excited for her tour though if this is the quality of the new album. :(
What I find most baffling is the constant repetition of "Jessie J" throughout. I know she likes a good namecheck but this is just ridiculous
I don't think people are inherently against belting vocals, they're just against belting vocals when they're accompanied by a horrid, high-pitched tone. I can understand hating Florence's voice but it is absolutely nothing compared to this or "YOU'RE LIKE A LASERLIGHT, BUUUUUUUUUUUURNING" etc. Honestly, 'Laserlight' is the single worst vocal I've ever heard.

Glad I'm not the only one. I cannot stand the singing on that chorus which wasn't helped when I always heard it on the radio months after it was a moderate hit. However, Who You Are is the absolute worst vocal for me, I've only ever managed to listen to it in full once and even that was tough.

Is it just me or does this sound a lot like The Other Side? And that wasn't exactly original too. I'm a little disappointed with this, I do like it but she's had better.

That was my first thought.

This song has been on my mind mildly over the past 24 hours. Not stuck in my head but reading the commentary of it. It's such a rarity to see a song plumped for much success to get such a cast iron negative response. I've said it on this forum many times: with pop songs you get a variety of types of song; the good, the inoffensive and the bad. It's as much a skill to create a BAD song as a GOOD one and Jessie, here has made something truly atrocious.

The vocal is self-indulgent and totally lacking any self-awareness. But it's not just that, it feels like Jessie is trying to con the musical audience out there. She's made all manner of comments about what this record and she STAND for. Here is a generic, naive track that is a spectacularly poor effort of music. The subject matter trite, generic and much done. It continues on from her artistic direction (even single to single from the last record). Jessie continues to dress it up though:

Jessie J has revealed that her new single 'It's My Party' was inspired by her haters.

The singer explained that she wanted to tell her detractors that "being miserable is not the way forward in life" with her latest track.

"A lot of the time the haters - I hate calling them haters but that's the easiest way to sum it up - they need love more so than anyone else," she told InDemand with Alex James.

"There's a reason they have that. I don't think hate does anything for the world. It doesn't do any good. I wanted to make sure I had a song that represented what I'm about."

Discussing Twitter trolls who send her hate messages, she admitted: "It's a lot to stomach. I'm taking a break from Twitter at the moment.

"I think life is about choices... I think negativity is a choice. I'm just trying to make people see that being miserable is not the way forward in life. Everyone should just get on and have a party!"

What a load of trite cliches. The reality she attempted to write a hit, following the standard generic formula of the time/her last record and it has failed to work. The above sums up just what it is that makes her such an abhorrent musician and individual.

I think she just gave her haters more ammo to hate her actually
She just isn't as good a singer as she thinks she is. She should focus on fans, not people who dislike her.

All of this! That's one of the things that annoys me the most about her. If you're going to produce generic, hit-chasing, lowest-common denominator shite, then atleast be upfront about it and admit that's what it is, and don't honestly try and make people believe you're doing something artistic or groundbreaking. I still can't get over when she described 'Who You Are', with all it's hideously cliched lyrics, as "free therapy for her fans" http://imgsrv2.tennisuniverse.com/wtaworld/images/smilies/hysterical.gif

Here is the video:

EDIT: Her voice is still awful, but I can't help but love this now.

Sheeeesh, just heard this and it's SERIOUSLY painful. Wild was actually quite good but I can't see this growing as I can't see me being able to get past her voice. Horrid.
That video is fab, definitely up there with LaserLight (which is the best she's ever done, and will do), and I love the song even more now (although I feel as if I'm in a VERY small minority here :heehee:).
This is terrible. 'Wild' actually grew on me a bit, but I certainly won't be putting myself through listening to this again.
This is slightly less terrible now but still awful
