Why do so many people spell 'Poker Face' as one word? [/minorgripe]

Just a habit, it really doesn't matter

Why is this GaGa debate even happening in here? Doesn't she have her own forum for this?

Her own forum where no one bar Gaga stans post, of course.

'Judas' better than 'Bad Romance', REALLY?

She struck gold with 'Bad Romance', it was her pinnacle. If she can even come close to that with a single from her new era then she'll be onto a winner.

(I do like 'Judas' btw, and think it was far better than 'Born This Way', but seriously now)

She really didn't. Any song she released at the end of 2009 would be deemed as Godly and flaw-free. I honestly do believe some people's opinions are swayed by the commercial success of GaGa's singles ('Poker Face' being better than 'Just Dance', 'Bad Romance' being her best song, 'Judas' being discredited, 'Born This Way' being criticised etc). I believe that if 'Born This Way' outsold BR and went to #1, many GaGa fans would praise it more - same with 'Judas' but I think the BR comparisons would always hinder it.

EDIT: Btw I don't actually think BTW should be more liked - it's full of too many cliches for my liking.

I know that theory certainly doesn't apply to me, but whatever.

Probably because there's a Kylie Minogue debate in the Gaga forum. iTunes discussion to be moved to the Kylie forum? :magic:

Sorry I knew there was a risk of making it sound like all of my comments were directed at you. I meant in general terms.

"Born This Way" was cloying and had a rubbish beat, it was a total mis-fire and I was quite shocked at the time how badly she had got it wrong after the perfect "Monster" era, I'm quite glad that the marketing strategy meant it failed to go to #1 in the UK.

"Bad Romance" on the other hand was a genuinely different and interesting song, I loved the rave sample from Human Resource's "Dominator" - an underrated dance hit from 1991. The video was quite iconic and again interesting - I also loved the release strategy and the fact that it started out at 'only' #14, but soon worked it's way to #1 and has now sold close to a million copies. OA/OS wins every time. :D

Obviously. You have to remember what it was like in 2009 (especially the first half of the year). Lady Gaga could've released anything and everybody would praise it to the heavens. Just Dance and Poker Face were treated like masterpieces. By 2011 people were starting to have a much more rational and logical view of her.

I didn't actually mind Telephone that much. I didn't full-on hate it like I did with her other songs, although it was similar to The Way I Are which might've been why. I liked Alejandro at first, but I got bored of it really fast. The radio overplay was ridiculous (although nothing compared to Empire State of Mind at the time ).

Yeah, I think Gaga's initial over-hyping has worked against her in the long run. Right now, it's kind of feeling like she's going to be another Spice Girls -- i.e. a flash-in-the-pan, a brief pop-culture phenomenon that everyone got bored of after a couple of years. And I feel like she's going to have to really come up with some KILLER stuff for her new album -- the stakes are much higher for her than for the new Rihanna or Katy Perry albums I think, those two could maybe get away with releasing just average songs right now whereas Gaga couldn't, because those two were never put on such a pedestal and as such aren't going to be judged to such a high standard.

I really do think she's shown she has the ability to potentially do it, because I do think she's probably a better and more visionary "artist" than any of her main rivals, but she has a difficult balance to strike -- I don't think people really want the social commentary songs we got with the last album, but equally she can't really do songs that are simply rehashes of her early hits because then she'll be accused of running out of ideas.

I know so many people that judged Born This Way (album) on the singles (who LOVED The Fame/Monster eras) so didn't even bother listening to the album, just dismissed her. If only they'd listened they'd know she topped Bad Romance with Scheiße AND Heavy Metal Lover, it's just a pitty Interscope wouldn't let Gaga release Scheiße as a single as people probably wouldn't be having doubts about her future knowing she managed to top Bad Romance straight away.

Now 'Bad Romance' really isn't my favourite Gaga single, but 'Scheiße' and (especially) 'Heavy Metal Lover' topping it? There's a reason they weren't released as singles. If 'Scheiße' didn't have the "omg controversy" factor, it'd be such a basic single with no real defining hooks, and the latter was really just filler (as was the majority of the 'Born This Way' album, unfortunately). I'd say the singles released, were the right choices and none of them would have come close to the success of 'Bad Romance' regardless of release order.

There is nothing remotely iconic about the 'Bad Romance' video. At all.

BATHS and a bed that is quite literally ON FIRE. Though it doesn't have a horse which does deduct it 1 point.

Right, but some kid sticking their fingers in their ears and going 'la la la' is though?

What? Just because it is in my avatar it doesn't mean I think the video is iconic? Tbh I think you need to look up the definition of the word "iconic" before you make such claims. An iconic music video is 'Thriller', 'Single Ladies', '...Baby One More Time' etc. 'Bad Romance' isn't iconic and I don't see how comparing it to 'La La La' makes it any moreso...

'La La La' is a far, far better video than 'Bad Romance'. While Gaga has several good videos, 'Bad Romance' is definitely not one of them.

I have never even slightly got the love for the 'Single Ladies' video. It's pretty much the definition of a generic video.

It is ALL about The Fame Monster for me as it contains my three favourite ever singles from her. The other two I'm not particularly bothered about but that album/Ep/whatever is very very good.
