Ellie getting to number 1 with her worst song ever?

It's not her worst, not are best but in the middle.

I'm probably the only one who actually thinks 'Burn' is Ellie's best single to date. It's jam packed with hooks throughout and makes the track such a brilliant pop song because of it. :D

It's a great little pop song but I guess it just feels more personality free than most of her singles, probably because it's a reheated Leona Lewis demo which Ellie had little part in (not sure where her writing credit comes from!). That said, it's catchy, commercial and mainstream so it was always going to do really well, radio will lap it up. I guess it's just a little jarring that such a traditionally leftfield pop artist, who has always written her own stuff, needs to release a big generic Ryan Tedder song to score a smash, a la Jessie J et al. But I guess if having a big smash like this keeps her profile up for a little longer, enabling her to continue doing the more interesting stuff on her albums, then I'm all for it.

I think it's ODD that Ellie is heading for #1 after so many blink-and-you'll-miss-them top ten hits (except for "Your Song") but I can't say it's undeserved! "Burn" isn't my favourite single of hers but I'm glad that she's finally going to have one and hopefully Halcyon will finally reach #1 when Halcyon Days is released :D This will mean 5/6 of the BRITs Critics' Choice winners will have had a UK #1 single now :cheer:

Arctics doing well OA/OS again radio 1 removed DIWK from the playlist last week so they should add the new single this week or next (if I had my way I'd a/b list it immediately like they should with on air singles so they don't lose momentum, albums out in a month (9th sept)!!

Wow at Ellie, thought she would be top 3 but already number 1 is amazing but Avicii is quite close behind I would love Ellie to get her first chart topper!

Pleased for the Arctics, good to see them top 20 I hope they can go top 10 this time!

Really hope Ray Foxx and Baby Blue climb into the top 40 officially, if they do its looking like a good week for new releases!

I hope Ellie can FINALLY get a #1 hit. I didn't think it would happen because although her lead singles always peak highly, they always fall short (though they do hang around for ages). I think then her lead singles always overshadow her second singles which all underperformed/flopped and then her third singles pick up a bit. Whilst 'Burn' is far from her best, it's still a good catchy pop song, and I do hope it can boost Halcyon/Halcyon Days to #1 because IMO it's a better album than 'Lights'.

It will be interesting to see if Do I Wanna Know slips this week due to it being removed from R1's playlist and there being a new track out. I wonder if 'Why'd You Only Call Me When Your High' will have some longevity?

In other news really disappointed at Axwell flopping. :( I really don't understand why R1 haven't backed this properly. They backed SHM, Sebastian Ingrosso & Steve Angello plus some older Axwell tracks in the past (Feel The Vibe, I Found You). It really baffles me why Axwell hasn't been given at least C List support from them!

Chance of Drake being in the top 40 later anyone? If it looks likely I will prep it for the chart later! I prepped OneRepublic just in case, but not Drake yet....
Not fussed on an Ellie no.1, can't stand her voice. Arctics would be better.
Ellie getting to number 1 with her worst song ever?

Seems to happen all the time now. Artists rack up top tens with their best singles and yet the one that actually goes to #1 is usually nowhere near their best.

See Miley Cyrus, Chris Brown, The Saturdays (although What About Us is pretty good, it's dissapointing that a Sean Paul collab beat out Higher and Ego for example), Katy Perry (her three #1's are her worst singles for me), Ke$ha, The Script....

I think that was added late in the week, I don't think it will reach top 40, better to be safe than sorry ;)

I do like Burn, but I repeat what everyone else is saying. This is her worst song yet and it should have been ACH or the tragically unreleased 'My Blood'

I think Drake probably has a better chance of making the top 40 than OneRepublic do although I think both will miss out (but be top 50 maybe). Drake has now got higher than he did with 'Started From The Bottom' :D Still not heard the new song but always good to see him doing well.

Obviously HOORAY for 'Burn' hitting #1. As most have said it's not quite her best and it does lack a bit of her personality (though I don't think it lacks all of it, you can tell it wasn't written with Ellie in mind but she succeeds at making it an Ellie song IMO) but it is still really good and it's fantastic to see her finally heading for a UK #1 single after the near miss of 'Your Song', which would have been a far worse song to be her 'only #1' IMO.

Surprised to see The Wanted actually going through with OA/OS and it looks like they're going to reap the benefits of it, performing very similarly to 'Wild' so far and I could see it having a similar chart run and massively outselling 'Walks Like Rihanna'. Could see it peaking at #4 as well though especially with the big gap between #3 and #4 right now.

And Arctic Monkeys actually releasing a song on a Sunday for once and thus looking like possibly getting their first top 10 hit for 6 years :o This era keeps getting bigger and bigger for them, 'AM' must be on course to do better than their last 2 albums (debut and longevity wise at least, it'd be difficult to beat them sales wise with overall album sales still rapidly collapsing).

Ray Foxx & Rachel K Collier looking on course for at least top 40, maybe top 20, as well. Hooray.

That post turned out unintentionally long.
