November 17, 201312 yr What a result! Martin Garrix at #1  I expect it to drop a lot next week a la Storm Queen but YES YES OMG IT'S HAPPENED! :cheer:
November 17, 201312 yr Shame Lily didn't quite make it this week, but she has another good chance next week I suppose.
November 17, 201312 yr What a dreadful number one. As I've said before, it sounds like it was knocked together in five minutes.
November 17, 201312 yr This week's random retro is from 1996 Week Ending : 23/11/1996 1 (NE) Prodigy - Breathe While "Breathe" may not have aged as well as "Firestarter", there's no doubting the impact the two singles (and the attendant album "The Fat Of The Land" had as snarling, angry, loud anthems for the tail end of the Rave culture. Other new entries to the Top 75 that week included the first Christmas song to make the charts that year, "Help Yourself"/"Bigamy At Christmas" credited to Tony Ferrino who is actually comedian/actor Steve Coogan. I don't ever recall hearing either track. Actually I think 'Breathe' has aged better than 'Firestarter', though I think it was better to start with anyway. Has there ever been a greater contrast between consecutive Number One singles than the Prodigy knocking off Robson & Jerome? I only heard the 'Bigamy At Christmas' track when I did my own retro from about this time and checked it on YouTube. I do remember Tony Ferrino though, he was like the flop follow-up to Alan Partridge who was launched with too much hype.
November 17, 201312 yr 2 weeks in a row with a dance artist debuting at #1 with their first charting single then.
November 17, 201312 yr Very pleased that Martin Garrix beat Goulding/Allen to #1, a much more exciting song.
November 17, 201312 yr YES, so happy for Martin Garrix, for some reason it passed me by when it was sent to BJSC, but its definitely quite the tune. It would've been quite a shame to see it miss out to this - brilliant song, so-so cover.
November 17, 201312 yr Much prefer Keanes version of this song. Her voice isn't strong for this track much prefer Hard out Here on the topic of Lily songs.
November 17, 201312 yr What a dreadful number one. As I've said before, it sounds like it was knocked together in five minutes. If so it's the best 5 minutes anyone ever spent.
November 17, 201312 yr 1 Martin Garrix - Animals [D] http://a1.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music4/v4/3b/90/55/3b9055ce-7973-d827-0910-393e997399b2/13UAAIM81658.170x170-75.jpg Chart Run: 1 [1 wk] Release date: 10-11-2013 Actually, he debuted at #140 on 10/8, dropped out, then re-entered for 1 week at #160 on 9/11.
November 17, 201312 yr 14 (from 75) Céline Dion - Loved Me Back To Life [D] Didn't care much for it. But her album did enter at #2 in America behind Eminem
November 17, 201312 yr Actually, he debuted at #140 on 10/8, dropped out, then re-entered for 1 week at #160 on 9/11. These posts have always only reflected the top 75.
November 17, 201312 yr I overplayed Animals far too much a few months ago so got tired of it, but it's amazing that a 17 year old has produced something like that! Well done to him! ^_^
November 17, 201312 yr Actually, he debuted at #140 on 10/8, dropped out, then re-entered for 1 week at #160 on 9/11. Well, we only count top 75 in these chart runes, so that is immaterial :D But thanks anyway.
November 17, 201312 yr (13) Poppy GIrls-No Need To Say Goodbye Nice song from them. Hopefully they will have more hits in the future.
November 17, 201312 yr Impressive for an instrumental track to get the #1. The best instrumental no.1 I've heard is Children by Robert Miles
