Shame Lily didn't quite make it this week, but she has another good chance next week I suppose.
What a dreadful number one. As I've said before, it sounds like it was knocked together in five minutes.
This week's random retro is from 1996

Week Ending : 23/11/1996

1 (NE) Prodigy - Breathe

While "Breathe" may not have aged as well as "Firestarter", there's no doubting the impact the two singles (and the attendant album "The Fat Of The Land" had as snarling, angry, loud anthems for the tail end of the Rave culture.

Other new entries to the Top 75 that week included the first Christmas song to make the charts that year, "Help Yourself"/"Bigamy At Christmas" credited to Tony Ferrino who is actually comedian/actor Steve Coogan. I don't ever recall hearing either track.

Actually I think 'Breathe' has aged better than 'Firestarter', though I think it was better to start with anyway. Has there ever been a greater contrast between consecutive Number One singles than the Prodigy knocking off Robson & Jerome?

I only heard the 'Bigamy At Christmas' track when I did my own retro from about this time and checked it on YouTube. I do remember Tony Ferrino though, he was like the flop follow-up to Alan Partridge who was launched with too much hype.

2 weeks in a row with a dance artist debuting at #1 with their first charting single then.
YES, so happy for Martin Garrix, for some reason it passed me by when it was sent to BJSC, but its definitely quite the tune. It would've been quite a shame to see it miss out to this - brilliant song, so-so cover.
Much prefer Keanes version of this song. Her voice isn't strong for this track much prefer Hard out Here on the topic of Lily songs.

If so it's the best 5 minutes anyone ever spent.

Chart Run: 1 [1 wk]

Release date: 10-11-2013

Actually, he debuted at #140 on 10/8, dropped out, then re-entered for 1 week at #160 on 9/11.

14  (from 75) Céline Dion - Loved Me Back To Life [D]

Didn't care much for it. But her album did enter at #2 in America behind Eminem

These posts have always only reflected the top 75.

I overplayed Animals far too much a few months ago so got tired of it, but it's amazing that a 17 year old has produced something like that! Well done to him! ^_^

Well, we only count top 75 in these chart runes, so that is immaterial :D

But thanks anyway.

(13) Poppy GIrls-No Need To Say Goodbye

Nice song from them. Hopefully they will have more hits in the future.
