Also: loving Bastille's jumper - he's wearing Jake's avatar. :D

You do know that Bastille's not a person, right?

Anyway echoing most of the comments on here, I find this version a bit dull and boring, I was hoping they'd do a bit more with it. They could have either done a Calvin-produced dance version or maybe a more chilled out acoustic-guitar-and-strings version. Obvs I'll still download it for the cause but this version is definitely missing the magic of the original.

I was just thinking it was odd that there was no exclusive play on TV yesterday - but I refuse to watch X-Factor, so that explains it.

Heard it just now. Very similar to the original but with poor vocal solos. No idea which voice matches which star, but I wasn't keen on any of them.

Hated the guitar solo in the middle instead of the synth solo and really annoyed that the "feed the world" refrain comes in far too early.

So, while the backing track sounds better than Band Aid 20 and Band Aid 2, there's no reason to stop listening to the original. Hopefully there's a number to donate on without having to download the track.

Seems like Band Aid is doing well...

Band Aid single sales 'extraordinary' says Bob Geldof

The musician and campaigner admitted he had been "a bit nervous" but said the response had been "extraordinary".

"From what we've seen from iTunes it's gone bonkers," he told Radio 4's Today programme on Monday. "Within four or five minutes we had a million quid."

iTunes needs to update ASAP... I need to see this at its peak :(

I expect huge sales for the song based on where the money raised is going. That said, this version is horrendous, it has lost everything the original had. If i could donate without having to buy this version i would as this version wont be bothering my ears in any situation where i have a choice to listen to what i want to. The original and 1989 version i enjoy and listen to every Christmas and i will continue to do so.

Considering downloads are 99p each, is he suggesting that over a million people downloaded it in five minutes?

I'm guessing it includes the £5 text donations.

I actually quite like this version, I'd rank it behind the original still but its better than the other two. The last one just sounded a mess I thought at times, this one has echo's of the original towards the end and is nice and stripped back, glad it hasn't turned out to be a dance version of the original as i thought they may have done.

I don't see the point that some have made about that it should have been held back just so it would sound better, the original was done the exact same way and is a classic and didn't sound rushed. By releasing it this way they've got a longer period for the song to sell well and raise more money.

Will be interesting to see how it does, i have an inkling its not going to be a huge as everyone thinks it will could be wrong though, i thought the same about the last one and was proven wrong. Really do hope it nabs the Xmas No.1 from X-Factor, its about time we had an actual Christmassy no.1 and its all for a good cause which makes it all the more better.

I know this song is for a good cause but seriously its by far the worst version of the song. Its so dull, dreary, flat and completely ruined compared to the brilliant original.
Really good version IMO! The new lyrics work perfectly well, great production as expected from Paul Epworth and no one sounded out of place on it. Slightly disappointed at the lack of Fuse though (I assume he was somewhere in the group vocals? He's still listed as part of the line-up on the official website...)

Apparently Fuse actually pulled out of the recording because he "wasn't comfortable with the new lyrics"

In the Grand tradition of Smash Hits Bastille is now the surname of the entire band

The million quid within four or five minutes was referring to the response last night so it will have been entirely from the text number (unless it included any pre-orders of the single).

Ooh that's a shame :( Wonder what that could have been then??

Yeah it's weird, I can't hear anything obvious in the new lyrics that he could have taken offence to.

I think it's really nice. I do think the mixing is a little on the dull side, it's like all three previous version are rolled into one but resulting in a watered down mix. It would sound much better if they also had a couple more days or something to get a handful more artists on it to make it feel a bit more alive but other than that it sounds great to me. Not sure if I prefer it over the original or BA20 (seriously don't get the hate for it) though but better than Band Aid II for me.

Also I can't understand a single word Ellie or Sinead are singing :/

Bob said something about High Contrast, disclosure, Calvin Harris and David Guetta all doing remixes for this on R1.
