December 16, 201311 yr Author [A '+' simply denotes a song that is still currently charting] 50-41: 50. Olly Murs - Dear Darlin' Peak: 03 | Weeks: 9 Kicking off the top 50 is Dear Darlin', the third single from Olly's third studio album Right Place Right Time. This would have been a LOT higher had I started my chart earlier, but as week 1 of my chart commenced a long time after I started loving it, a #50 place followed. Anyway, a fantastic song from Olly consisting of a superb bridge and chorus and beautiful melodies. 49. Eliza Doolittle - Big When I Was Little Peak: 09 | Weeks: 6 Next up at 49 is the first of two entries to feature Eliza Doolittle. After being impressed by some of her past material, particularly Skinny Genes, I was excited to hear new stuff, and the catchy, nostalgia-inducing Big When I Was Little did not disappoint. 48. Karmin - Acapella Peak: 02 | Weeks: 5 After not being initially impressed by Karmin's debut single Brokenhearted, I re-discovered them some months after from their insanely good covers on YouTube (Started from the Bottom, 6 Foot 7 Foot & Sweet Dreams/Karate Chop being particular highlights) which then soon lead me to discover their next single, Acapella! It is a really fun, catchy pop song that admittedly started getting annoying for me, particularly the falsetto part near the end before the final chorus! 47. Justin Timberlake - Tunnel Vision Peak: 8 | Weeks: 6 After the smashes that were Suit & Tie and Mirrors, Tunnel Vision soon followed (But was then later changed to Take Back the Night for single release). Straight away I fell in love with this smooth track from Justin. 46. Naughty Boy ft. Emeli Sande - Lifted Peak: 13 | Weeks: 9 Next up is the first of two entries in my chart for Naughty Boy. An anthemic and spiritual song, Emeli's voice soars in this song, and I adore the strings throughout. 45. Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith - La La La Peak: 11 | Weeks: 7 Haha, two Naughty Boy tracks in a row! This one is his biggest hit to date ~ becoming a summer anthem as it raced to #1. Featuring the soulful voice of Sam Smith, it's pretty much a masterpiece. 44. Rizzle Kicks - Skip to the Good Bit Peak: 4 | Weeks: 7+ A song that came to my attention through the Strictly Come Dancing advert. The follow up to Lost Generation, Skip to the Good Bit is fantastic - sampling the melody of Unbelievable by EMF extremely well, resulting in a funky track from the boys. 43. will.i.am - Bang Bang Peak: 4 | Weeks: 6 Next up is occupied by Bang Bang. I instantly fell in love with the song when will.i.am and Leah McFall perfomed it on the Voice - the track features a modern twist on an old-school style - reminding me of Why Don't You by Gramophonedzie at first. 42. Eminem - Berzerk Peak: 08 | Weeks: 7 The first of three Eminem songs to make the countdown. I eagerly anticipated his comeback after hearing about it at the VMA's, and Berzerk impressed me upon first listen, being reminiscent of some of his earlier material. He also looked like he had barely aged in the video too! 41. Ellie Goulding - Burn Peak: 12 | Weeks: 7 Finishing off this section is Ellie Goulding's biggest hit to date. Scoring her three weeks at the top back in the summer, a catchy one from her, her voice sounding glorious on the track.
December 19, 201311 yr Author [A '+' simply denotes a song that is still currently charting] 40-31: 40. Kanye West - Black Skinhead Peak: 02 | Weeks: 6 We now enter the top 40 of my countdown! Starting off is the 1st single from Yeezus, Black Skinhead. Two words that come to mind? Insane yet intense, for sure! 39. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Mary Lambert - Same Love Peak: 04 | Weeks: 10 Next up is the second entry from Macklemore to feature in this countdown. Same Love is absolutely STUNNING, and I was delighted to see it take off here this year! Mary Lambert gives chilling vocals in the chorus, whilst Macklemore makes his rapping sound effortless, some touching lyrics indeed. Brilliant! 38. Klangkarussell - Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) Peak: 07 | Weeks: 7 One of my songs of the summer for sure! A really great chill out tune, the instrumental version was sublime in itself, but the addition of Will Heard's smooth vocals works incredibly well! 37. Sub Focus ft. Alex Clare - Endorphins Peak: 10 | Weeks: 7 The follow-up to the excellent Tidal Wave, saw the also excellent Endorphins! Alex Clare's vocals absolutely soar! 36. Mika ft. Ariana Grande - Popular Song Peak: 15 | Weeks: 7 I've pretty much gone off this now because it's so so cheesy, but at the time I loved it, as it was super catchy! Literally stuck-in-your-head-for-hours catchy. 35. Lady Gaga - Mary Jane Holland Peak: 3 | Weeks: 6+ Yet another Gaga song to feature in the countdown! Mary Jane Holland is an album track from ARTPOP. Nothing spectacular lyric-wise but I just love the feel of the chorus to be honest! Her vocals in particular sound fantastic and the intense beats carry the song along wonderfully. 34. Naughty Boy ft. Bastille - No One's Here to Sleep Peak: 16 | Weeks: 10 A song I discovered through being iTunes free track of the day. I absolutely love it, a very chilled out track compared to some of Naughty Boy's other material, featuring the brilliant vocals of Dan Smith. 33. Lady Gaga - Venus Peak: 01 | Weeks: 7+ Another Gaga track here, this time the weird but wonderful Venus. This is the first song produced by Gaga herself, it's a bit messy but the disco groove accompanied with the whacky lyrics make it enjoyable in quite an insane way! 32. Eminem ft. Rihanna- The Monster Peak: 01 | Weeks: 6+ Another entry from Eminem in my countdown! Scoring Rihanna a phenomenal 7 official number 1's in 7 years, The Monster boasts an infectious hook. Eminem is on fire this era! 31. Storm Queen - Look Right Through (MK Remix) Peak: 01 | Weeks: 7+ Rounding off this section is the debut single from Storm Queen. With the looping chorus and thumping beats, the track soon becomes infectious. Such a great remix! Edited December 19, 201311 yr by Slade

December 24, 201311 yr Author [A '+' simply denotes a song that is still currently charting] 30-21: 30. Drake ft. Majid Jordan - Hold On, We're Going Home Peak: 09 | Weeks: 9 Being a huge Drake fan, I was excited to hear that he had a new song that was doing well on iTunes while I was on holiday. However, I gave it a listen and was initially disappointed. Soon enough though, it definitely turned out to be a grower and I absolutely love it now ~ such a smooth R&B chill-out track! 29. MKS - Flatline Peak: 08 | Weeks: 9 Next up is the comeback single from the original line-up of the Sugababes - Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan! This was another grower in the countdown ~ I didn't think it was anything special but in time I grew to appreciate it! Great vocals from the girls with beautifully tight harmonies in particular - a song that slowly draws you in! 28. Disclosure ft. Eliza Doolittle - You & Me Peak: 09 | Weeks: 10 What an absolutely sublime effort from Disclosure and Eliza Doolittle. Eliza's sultry vocals go together so well with the romantic dance track from the boys. 27. Natalia Kills - Saturday Night Peak: 15 | Weeks: 12 Natalia Kills originally captured my attention in 2011 with the brilliant Mirrors, so in the summer I was delighted she had more material. I was so glad to rediscover her - Problem and Saturday Night instantly won me over, she deserves so much more recognition and success than she gets. 26. Naya Rivera ft. Big Sean - Sorry Peak: 04 | Weeks: 9 Sorry was the debut effort of Glee actress Naya Rivera. Being a huge fan of the show and it's actors, I have always been eager to hear solo material from the cast too. Sorry features her real-life boyfriend and boasts an attitude-ridden chorus which Naya delivers incredibly well. 25. Mariah Carey ft. Miguel - #Beautiful Peak: 03 | Weeks: 7 Oh, this was definitely one of my ultimate songs of the summer! I'm not really a Mariah fan, so I was shocked to find that I absolutely adored this track! Such a fantastic effort from her, and the choice of Miguel as a feature was completely genius - his smooth voice complimenting hers on the track perfectly. 24. Eminem - Rap God Peak: 01 | Weeks: 9+ Eminem is absolutely on FIRE this era! Yet another fantastic one from him - Rap God feels so intense throughout and then the "lyrics coming at super sonic speed" as he puts it - really do come that quick! The track on the whole is breathtaking, reminding me why he is one of my favourite artists of all time. 23. Conor Maynard - R U Crazy Peak: 03 | Weeks: 10+ An artist who definitely took me by surprise this year! I wasn't all that impressed with Conor's previous material, but this new mature sound for him is definitely working! The production is incredible from Labrinth also! 22. Lady Gaga ft. R Kelly - Do What U Want Peak: 02 | Weeks: 8+ Yet another entry from Gaga, this one was most definitely a grower for me. It took me a while to truly appreciate this, but now I do, I can safely say that she has delivered again with a smooth effort from her with the unexpected but genius pairing of R Kelly. 21. Glee Cast - Hey Jude Peak: 08 | Weeks: 11 Rounding off this section is the final entry from the Glee Cast and most definitely my favourite track from season 5 so far! Hey Jude is taken from episode 2 of this season - the second Beatles tribute Tina In The Sky With Diamonds. I am a HUGE fan of the Beatles so it's always near impossible for me to compare two things that I love so much, but this cover by Darren Criss with other members on back-up was excellent. Not as good as Sir Paul's original obviously, but as a cover I can definitely appreciate what a great rendition it is! Top 20 will be coming soon! Edited December 24, 201311 yr by Slade
December 24, 201311 yr Do What U Want is amazing, easily the best thing from GaGa this era. Same with Disclosure and You & Me, so much better than anything else they have done, shame it is relatively forgotten about lately.
December 25, 201311 yr Saturday Night is stunning, as is Leah McFall's I Will Survive (which you posted a long time ago oops :P) Much love to them both! "When I look up from the pavement, I know I'm gonna be just fine, and I put on my dancing shoes real tight..." "You don't know what it's like to be 17 with no place to go..." lyrically it's just flawless  Also pleased to see Booyah, Acapella, You & Me, and Endorphins...a nice surprise for Alex Clare to have another top 10 single! He's probably seen as a one-hit wonder but I hope he gets another song in the charts sometime.
December 28, 201311 yr Author Do What U Want is amazing, easily the best thing from GaGa this era. Same with Disclosure and You & Me, so much better than anything else they have done, shame it is relatively forgotten about lately. I definitely agree with you regarding Do What U Want, it's far surpassed Venus for me now & is even better than Applause, definitely a grower for me but got there eventually! You & Me is genius, I wish it had got the success of White Noise! Thank you for commenting! Saturday Night is stunning, as is Leah McFall's I Will Survive (which you posted a long time ago oops :P) Much love to them both! December 28, 201311 yr Author [A '+' simply denotes a song that is still currently charting] 20-11: 20. Chase & Status ft. Moko - Count On Me Peak: 08 | Weeks: 10 Chase & Status are on absolute fire this era with their single choices, so much so that this isn't even the highest entry from them in this countdown! Count On Me is a feel-good banger from them, and introduced us to the fantastic vocal ability (and hair!) of Moko! 19. Chris Malinchak - So Good to Me Peak: 07 | Weeks: 10 At first I found this a little dull but when given the chance to properly get into it, I now love it! Listening to it while lying on the beach in Spain is relaxation to the max! Probably my ultimate chill-out track of the year, so gorgeous! 18. Le Youth - C O O L Peak: 03 | Weeks: 13 I discovered Le Youth this year thanks to this amazing track from them! So funky and fresh, it was repeated a lot for me over summer! 17. Jay-Z ft. Justin Timberlake - Holy Grail Peak: 03 | Weeks: 9 While I think the music video sort of ruins the song when it slows down the tempo, I think the track on it's own is so brilliant and smooth. 16. Lorde - Royals Peak: 03 | Weeks: 10 While Royals tends to grate on me a bit now, I was absolutely loving it before hearing it everywhere. The song is lyrically fantastic, for such a young artist Lorde has so much promise for the future. 15. Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? Peak: 05 | Weeks: 11 Arctic Monkeys have had an incredible era this time around! I was immediately hooked, with the moody, sultry feel of the track - outstanding. 14. Lady Gaga - Aura Peak: 04 | Weeks: 13 The opener of this track feels a tad insane, but as it builds up it becomes infectious - the "Do you wanna see the girl behind the aura?" hook in particular. Much like Gaga's previous efforts ~ a zany yet incredible outcome. 13. Britney Spears - Work B**ch! Peak: 05 | Weeks: 14+ After really loving Till the World Ends, I Wanna Go and Criminal from Britney's last era but not really thinking Scream & Shout was all that, I was anxious to hear new material. I still find the accent bizzare yet somehow comically charming, but what really won me over was the stellar production! The middle 8 is also divine. If only this had more longevity in the charts! 12. CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share Peak: 02 | Weeks: 13+ The Mother We Share was the first I'd actually heard of CHVRCHES, but it quickly won me over. The synths, claps and keyboards make an exceptional instrumental together, whilst the vocals of the lead singer are sublime! 11. Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball Peak: 06 | Weeks: 13 Rounding off this section is Miley Cyrus! Quite literally the most controversial character of the year, and a childhood obsession of mine, it was quite the transformation! However, Wrecking Ball was a quite frankly stunning effort from her. The build up is emotional to the heart-wrenching chorus, she gives her all. 10-1 coming soon! Edited December 28, 201311 yr by Slade
December 30, 201311 yr Author London Grammar - Strong way too low :nono: At least it made it! Wrecking Ball and Hey Jude. Brilliance. Also yay for Same Love. Thank you for commenting, yes those songs are excellent! Edited December 30, 201311 yr by Slade
December 30, 201311 yr Author [A '+' simply denotes a song that is still currently charting] 10-01: 10. John Newman - Cheating Peak: 03 | Weeks: 11 In all honesty, I was not expecting this to be this high at all! I blame it on a brief John Newman phase during summer (Although I was NOT an iTunes thread loon ). So, I was completely obsessed with Love Me Again during summer, and whilst I was on holiday, I listened to Cheating and was immediately hooked and had it on repeat the whole night. Admittedly, it's a weaker version of it's predecessor, but when it's predecessor is that good, then it is no bad thing in my eyes. 09. Lady Gaga - Applause Peak: 01 | Weeks: 14 Number 9 consists of the first single from Gaga's latest album, ARTPOP. I was so excited while on holiday to find out that this was out, and I had no idea what to expect. In all honesty, I was initially disappointed but with each listen it just kept getting better and better until it finally clicked. While I don't think it's up there with Gaga's very best, Applause is definitely a strong lead single with a brilliant chorus! 08. The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather Peak: 01 | Weeks: 13+ So one day during summer, I was checking up on the American charts when I saw this charting. Thinking it's title sounded pretty interesting, I decided to check it out ~ and am SO glad I did! Sweather Weather is absolutely gorgeous. So smooth and chill-out, from the vocals to the instrumental itself. I don't think I will ever get bored of this, it definitely needs to smash in the U.K. one day! 07. Katy Perry ft. Juicy J - Dark Horse Peak: 02 | Weeks: 14+ THIS is what really made me take notice of Katy Perry this year. Don't get me wrong, Roar was obviously a smash and a perfectly-crafted pop song, but for some reason, there was still something missing which meant I wasn't completely bowled over by it. Dark Horse on the other hand is completely sublime, and I am so glad to hear that Katy is releasing it as single #3. This track is almost hypnotic, Katy's voice is so gripping along with the production - a completely wow moment as soon as the beat drops. Juicy J's feature is a little unneeded, almost hindering the song as you just want to keep hearing Katy execute it! More songs like this please Katy! 06. James Arthur - You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You Peak: 01 | Weeks: 12 While I have actually gone off this a bit now, there's no doubt that I was obsessed when it first came out. Spending four weeks at #1 in my chart just showed how much I was into it! I was a HUGE fan of James during last years X Factor, so naturally I was super excited for his first single. You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You did not disappoint - it feels so huge with all the percussion and horns and his vocals sound as angst-ridden and bold as ever! 05. Chase & Status ft. Louis M^ttrs - Lost & Not Found Peak: 01 | Weeks: 13 What an absolute tune this is! So much in fact that it has become my second favourite single from them after only End Credits! Lost & Not Found is genius, and as soon as the track starts, it's immediately gripping. Incredible choice of vocalist as well. 04. Little Mix - Move Peak: 01 | Weeks: 14+ What a fantastic way for the girls to kick off this era! While it wasn't instant for me, after a few listens I got it and was immediately hooked from then on. With the lack of a distinct chorus, it was a grower in a Blurred Lines kind of way. It is quite a turn of direction for the girls but it is certainly working for me. Vocally they sound fantastic also, and what an amazing music video to accompany the single! 03. Avicii - You Make Me Peak: 03 | Weeks: 14+ You Make Me is the highest entry in my chart that didn't hit number 1, but it's still flying high after 14 weeks! Completely overshadowed by Wake Me Up, for me personally I wished it had been the other way round! You Make Me instantly puts me in a really great mood whenever I hear it. The whole thing is uplifting - from the production to lyrics such as "We are one, one for sure, all united, don't want some more" and is ultimately a superb effort from an act with huge success this year! 02. John Newman - Love Me Again Peak: 01 | Weeks: 14 Just missing out on the top spot is John Newman's second and highest entry in the top 10! Love Me Again was his first solo release after his Rudimental collaborations, and he ticks every box with this one. His vocals are so unique, putting a stamp on the track immediately. So much soul put into a dance track which is ultimately a winner for me. 01. Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais - Summertime Sadness Peak: 01 | Weeks: 20+ Rounding off my countdown is my FAVOURITE song of 2013! This was a no brainer as Lana blew all competition out of the water with 20+ weeks in my chart and still going! I was aware of the haunting original, but I noticed this remixed version charting so decided to check it out. I knew Cedric Gervais from his brief encounter in the top 40 with Molly - a song with production that I absolutely adored so I was interested in how this slow, sultry one from Lana could somehow be remixed into a dance track. Fortunately, it was a dream collaboration, scoring Lana her first top 5 single in the UK! The track is absolutely glorious, Lana's voice and lyrics work so well against the dance production, with the "I've got that summertime sadness" hook standing out amongst it. The soundtrack to my summer, Summertime Sadness concludes my top 100 songs of the year! Edited January 31, 201411 yr by Jade
December 30, 201311 yr Amazing number one. Very deserving. Great chart all round. Especially with Arctic Monkeys, Eminem, Little Mix and Jay-Z all so high.
