Really excited about the new stuff, she has such a beautiful voice and her debut was pretty impressive imo. I really have no idea how she will do, she could easily do an Adele but at the same time she could flop completely. Here's hoping for the former.

Can't wait to be honest...her first album was perfection and I'm expecting nothing less for this one too.

Somewhere in between I'd say. She won't do 700k+ like Adele did. Won't flop either and should sell well up to Xmas.

I can't imagine this second era will be as huge as the first but with Christmas sales I can imagine maybe 400k before year end and then around 700k total. Obviously I have nothing to go on though and it could play out any way at this point.

If the music holds up and is really great I don't see why she shouldn't still shift a few albums, she is mainly an album act after all.

I have a feeling she will underperform and may struggle. I quite like the first single but its certainly not as strong as anything from her first album.

Hmm not sure what I make of this. It is really strange and doesn't really have any appeal in that weirdness. It just feels empty and nothingy, the complete opposite of 'Hurts'.

I wouldn't say it's weird! Just a lot more minimal.

I love it! Far prefer it to 'Hurts'. Whereas that was exactly what I expected from her, it's great to see her doing something a bit different with this.

Have to agree with Cremey here. Definitely prefer Garden to Hurts as it's something unique, not to mention the fantastic production.
'Garden' feels so empty and dull though. Really disappointed with it after 'Hurts' really brought me on board for this! I'll save judgement, but it has kinda made me lose a little bit of interest in the album.
I love the "Oooh ooh ooh, I'm ready / Oooh ooh, don't stop" lyric! Definitely not a single in the making but it's a great album track; very interlude-y and it makes sense appearing right in the middle of the album. I wouldn't worry that this is largely the sound she'll be going for with this album; I don't think 'Hurts' being the only one of its kind would fit at all on this album otherwise.
Yeah 'Garden' has really grown on me now. The production is indeed fantastic and Jay Electronica's verse is wonderful.

I saw her on that mini preview tour she did a couple of weeks ago and I wouldn't worry about "Garden" too much if it's put you off. She performed it when I saw her and it was the one that didn't really fit in as well as the other songs, though it was nice to hear her doing something a bit different.

The other ones she performed from the albums are "Happen", "Give Me Something", "Every Single Little Piece" and "Highs & Lows". They were all pretty strong tracks which wouldn't be out of place alongside "Hurts" or the first album. I would say "Happen" is the most different to what we've heard from her before - it's one of those songs where it starts off quite subdued and subtle with the delivery, then there's a big guitar solo and then she comes in with big empowering vocals. It was about having faith and making it happen etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if "Give Me Something" and "Every Single Little Piece" were singles, I don't think they were quite as interesting as "Hurts" but they were catchy and had good sing along moments. I would put them in the same sort of category as "My Kind Of Love".

New instant grat "Breathing Under Water" out now.

Definitely more Emeli by numbers than the first two tracks but I'm in love with it. That chorus and the choir at the end, yes please. Definitely has a lot of replay value.

Really some beautiful songs on here. Her lyrics have come on so much and I can really feel the divorce pain so strongly on here.

I have always kind of being willing her to take a bit more of an edgy vibe or even continue along Massive Attack types lines sonically, and I guess I will have to continue waiting as she definitely doesn't do so with this record. 'Hurts' is an obvious highlight due to that, but I am actually content with the somewhat conservative approach she took with this album in the end. I may like some of the sonic choices so much because of my love for gospel choirs though.

I'm sure a lot of people will brand this even more "boring" than her first album, but I think it is very true to her and it really is an album with one hell of a heart.
