Gwon Pharrell :cheer: In the dying week of the year he matches Rita Ora's feat of having 3 #1s in a calendar year from 2012. (Well, unless you count this chart as part of 2014 of course :P)

Surely One Direction must have sold the 65-70k to overtake Sande, they can't have fallen THAT far behind Gary Barlow this week! I'm going to assume Jameela had no idea what she was talking about.
Last year was James?

James, I had Little Mix in my head for some reason.

Poor Sam down to #2 because of *that*.

'Skyscraper' is still sounding FAB though.

It's rare that I actually prefer the X Factor winners single to the original, but this is a much more refined and less screechy version. Still not fab though, but would much rather have seen it #1 than 'Happy' which makes me quite the opposite.
Peter Kay's Animated All Stars - BBC Children In Need Medley - (8 Weeks) 28/11/2009 -18-{1}-1-2-4-11-35-61

Thanks for this lol the downloads were terrible for this hence the strange chart run like a mcfly single!!

What a fab number 1! :D 2013 has been a great year for chart toppers.

Didn't actually expect Sam to still be top two. Hey Brother continues to be amazing, I finally got hold of the radio edit on a Swedish compilation last week too :D

r.e. the chart presenter debate, I think times have just evolved. There was a long era where the DJ's literally presented the facts and it was very good but I don't think that approach would work whatsoever on Radio 1 in the era of Twitter/Facebook/smart phones and the internet. People can research the songs/artists themselves instantly should they want to, plus the audience is a lot younger than it used to be.

If the chart show was shoved to Radio 2 then the Mark Goodier approach would be perfect but I'm almost certain that if they had someone literally reading out the list, with no guests/competitions/opinions/Twitter feedback etc... in this era on Radio 1, the majority of the young audience that listen to this show would switch right off. That's why The Capital Big iTunes 40 or whatever it's called does so well, they focus less on the actual chart (too little in fact with the ridiculous rules, at least we have an actual fully played official chart here still) and more on fun, chat and competitions and it has two million listeners!

Peter Kay's Animated All Stars - BBC Children In Need Medley - (8 Weeks) 28/11/2009 -18-{1}-1-2-4-11-35-61

Thanks for that fchd. :D

Glad Pharrell has done so well great chart run and leaking 5 weeks in!!
Pharelll deserved it. Great song and something positive and upbeat. Nothing crude, nothing violent or misogynistic. Almost too perfect.
Definitely one of the weaker winner singles IMO.
Pharrell is close to matching Rihanna's record of most weeks at singles chart #1 this week, as he moves into ten weeks from three #1s, whilst Rihanna's eleven comes from five #1s.
3 X-Factor winners in the top 20 again!
Surely One Direction must have sold the 65-70k to overtake Sande, they can't have fallen THAT far behind Gary Barlow this week! I'm going to assume Jameela had no idea what she was talking about.

Does she ever? :P
