April 13, 201412 yr If we're talking officially, I think it was The Little Mermaid that started the 'Disney Renaissance' wasn't it? (Though I know Beauty & The Beast was the best received and all) Of course The Little Mermaid started the Renaissance but Beauty and the Beast solidified it and showed that The Little Mermaid was not a fluke. It was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars which was seriously something for an animated film. Similarly the "Second Renaissance" (as some call it) was started by The Princess and the Frog or Tangled but seems now undeniable thanks to Frozen's enormous critical and commercial success.
