April 27, 201412 yr 40 00 01 The Kooks Down Listen | 2014 http://a5.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music/v4/e5/0d/e5/e50de5aa-a3d9-05e2-8fe1-64645d86e4e5/14UMGIM07976.170x170-75.jpg Chart Run: 40 Release date: 20-04-2014 / 21-04-2014 Format: digital single / 7" Vinyl Label: Virgin Records Video here: p2tjsNabkzo download track listing 1 Down 2 Hooray For Henry 3 Hold On 4 Melody Maker Biography Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (guitar), Max Rafferty (bass), and Paul Garred (drums) generate the rubbishy garage rock sounds of the Kooks. Named after the song on David Bowie's Hunky Dory, the Kooks met while attending Brighton Music College in the mid-2000s. Each shared a liking for the Police, the Strokes, the Everly Brothers, and Funkadelic, and the bandmates began funneling such influences into their own sweet and precocious sound in 2005. Before the year's end, the British foursome was releasing singles for Virgin UK. "Eddie's Gun" and "Sofa Song" did moderately well on the U.K. singles chart; however, the romantic playfulness of "You Don't Love Me" eventually gave the band its first ever Top 20 hit. The Kooks' debut full-length, Inside In/Inside Out, arrived in January 2006. The band's fifth single, "Naive," landed at number five by spring. Hot on the heels of their international success, the Kooks made their American performance debut at the annual South by Southwest conference in Austin, TX, in March, and the U.S. version of Inside In/Inside Out arrived on Astralwerks in October 2006. Two years later, the Kooks returned with Konk, an album they hoped had a "bigger" sound than their debut. The album's arrival coincided with the announcement that Rafferty had left the band and was replaced by former Cat the Dog bassist Dan Logan. At the end of 2010 the band returned to the recording studio with producer Tony Hoffer (Beck, Idlewild, The Thrills). Pushing them in a new direction, their third album, 2011’s Junk of the Heart, was the result. - iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): 2005 35 Eddie's Gun -1- 2005 28 Sofa Song -2- 2006 12 You Don't Love Me -3- 2006 05 Naive -4- 2006 07 She Moves In Her Own Way -5- 2006 20 Ooh La -6- 2008 03 Always Where I Need To Be -1- 2008 25 Shine On -2- 2008 41 Sway -3- 2014 40 Down -1-
April 27, 201412 yr A welcome return to the Top 40 for The Kooks. This is such a different sound for them. :)
April 27, 201412 yr The Kooks just about sneaked in then! She Moves In Her Own Way & Naive are absolute tunes. This new one from them actually sounds pretty good!
April 27, 201412 yr 1999 28. Eric Bennet Feat. Faith Evans – Georgy Porgy 23. Faith Evans Feat. Puff Daddy – All Night Long Chart queen!!
April 27, 201412 yr The Kooks? Now they're a band I never expected to see in the top 40 again. First time hearing it, it's inoffensive but doesn't sound like a hit single (yay for some variety I guess but I'm not a fan)
April 27, 201412 yr Its down from the midweeks, pardon the pun  shame the track didn't get any higher.
April 27, 201412 yr Glad for The Kooks but they'll never top Naive or She Moves In Her Own Way. Not really liking Down but happy for them :)
