June 22, 201412 yr This has done so much better than I thought it would! :o Hope the album sales are decent enough too
June 22, 201412 yr Yes at The Kooks getting their second Top 40 single this era! :D Who'd have thought it? Edited June 22, 201412 yr by gavindeejay
June 22, 201412 yr Oh so The Kooks have made it after all! Quite comfortably as well. I guess Jameela just messed up referring to Ed Sheeran as a new entry earlier. First time hearing this, hope it's better than 'Down' :P
June 22, 201412 yr 35 00 01 The Kooks Around Town Listen | 2014 http://a2.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music4/v4/ba/c0/f3/bac0f3d3-b922-216e-fb7b-9a7aa427e024/14UMGIM14633.170x170-75.jpg Chart Run: 35 Release date: 15-06-2014 Format: digital single Label: Virgin Records Video here: v6Gxin8VKZc Biography Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (guitar), Max Rafferty (bass), and Paul Garred (drums) generate the rubbishy garage rock sounds of the Kooks. Named after the song on David Bowie's Hunky Dory, the Kooks met while attending Brighton Music College in the mid-2000s. Each shared a liking for the Police, the Strokes, the Everly Brothers, and Funkadelic, and the bandmates began funneling such influences into their own sweet and precocious sound in 2005. Before the year's end, the British foursome was releasing singles for Virgin UK. "Eddie's Gun" and "Sofa Song" did moderately well on the U.K. singles chart; however, the romantic playfulness of "You Don't Love Me" eventually gave the band its first ever Top 20 hit. The Kooks' debut full-length, Inside In/Inside Out, arrived in January 2006. The band's fifth single, "Naive," landed at number five by spring. Hot on the heels of their international success, the Kooks made their American performance debut at the annual South by Southwest conference in Austin, TX, in March, and the U.S. version of Inside In/Inside Out arrived on Astralwerks in October 2006. Two years later, the Kooks returned with Konk, an album they hoped had a "bigger" sound than their debut. The album's arrival coincided with the announcement that Rafferty had left the band and was replaced by former Cat the Dog bassist Dan Logan. At the end of 2010 the band returned to the recording studio with producer Tony Hoffer (Beck, Idlewild, The Thrills). Pushing them in a new direction, their third album, 2011’s Junk of the Heart, was the result. - iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): 2005 35 Eddie's Gun -1- 2005 28 Sofa Song -2- 2006 12 You Don't Love Me -3- 2006 05 Naïve -4- 2006 07 She Moves In Her Own Way -5- 2006 20 Ooh La -6- 2008 03 Always Where I Need To Be -1- 2008 25 Shine On -2- 2008 41 Sway -3- 2014 40 Down -1- 2014 35 Around Town -2-
June 22, 201412 yr Who's that machine gunning excrement directly into my earholes? Oh wait, my mistake. It's the new single by The Kooks.
June 22, 201412 yr 'Around Town' is better than 'Down' so yay for it peaking higher. Could see The Kooks' album doing pretty well too, who thought they'd still be relevant in 2014? :o
June 22, 201412 yr Ooh I'm so glad to see this did indeed make the top 40! SO much better than the uninspired 'Down', love the production too! Edited June 22, 201412 yr by Jade
June 22, 201412 yr Around Town is much better than Down, glad it has peaked higher. This also sounds pretty uplifting in the sun, despite not being your usual summer song!
June 22, 201412 yr This is rather a lot better than 'Down' (kind of sounds like it should also be called 'Down') though still not a patch on 'Naïve' and 'She Moves In Her Own Way'.
June 22, 201412 yr This Kooks song is rather overstuffed, but I quite like it. They've really had quite a mini-revival, their new album should do very well.
June 22, 201412 yr Changes sounds absolutely amazing in the sun. Hope Shades of Cool does something in the charts for Lana too, it's beautiful.

June 22, 201412 yr The melody of "West Coast" reminds me a little of "Edge of Seventeen". That would be very high praise indeed ("Edge of Seventeen") is my personal all-time Number 1. I'll have to listen to the Lana track closer to see the similarity, I've kind of brushed it aside as sub-Dido vocals (after her very strong first album this second one seems very weak to me so far)
June 22, 201412 yr This Raleigh Richie song continues to grow on me with every listen, very anthemic!
