Sales added. Royal Blood's album has sold 11.4k since yesterday! Definitely 70k+ sales at the end of the week.

This Kate Bush invasion is fabulous, long may it last and her presence stay in the charts.

Sam's single is definitely doing its job. The album is 1.6k up on this time last week so hopefully it'll break 20k sales this week (meaning all of the top five would be above that mark).

EDIT: His VMA performance of 'Stay With Me' will also be helping things of course.

Just under 12k in a day for Royal Blood, get in! Could be on for 60k at this rate now.

David Guetta has increased the gap with Taylor Swift again - 1.6k currently compared to 1.3k yesterday. Streaming is definitely going to cost Taylor getting any further than #4 I think.

Thank God for Royal Blood and Ariana, Top Ten album sales would be abysmal had they not released this week.

If Kate Bush still has 6, (or 5), Top 40 Albums on Sunday it will be a UK Chart Record for a Female Singer.

(Madonna had 4 simultaneous Top 40 Albums for 1 Week in August 1987. That's if we count the No.5

Album as a Madonna Album - 'Who's That Girl' Soundtrack. Many do not count it as a Madonna Album.

This is because of its 9 Tracks Madonna only sang on 4 of them - 1,2,3 & 8).

I'm guessing the record for a male is Michael Jackson with 9 albums in the Top 40 the w/e 18/07/09 and for a group it is The Beatles with 11 albums in the Top 40 the w/e 19/09/09.

Great stuff from Royal Blood going to be great sales. Their Reading festival performance must be helping them and their fan bases has multiplied as the yr has progressed that and the great output with radio 1 support is helping them become the yr's 2nd biggest debut behind Sam, great to see!
bit harsh on Union J to already be out of the top 40. i think pop music seems to be dying a death - pixie, saturdays, union J all struggling.

I don't think pop music is 'dying a death', it's just that those acts are now struggling as their music is a bit dated in 2014.

Look at the top of the charts and there's lots of pop to be found (Maroon 5, Nico & Vinz, MAGIC!, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, OneRepublic, Ella Henderson…)

Pop music is fine. Union J are just the North & South/V/Triple 8 of 2014, every era has a couple of d-list boybands. As for Pixie and The Sats, they've had a better run than most might have expected but their relevance is long over now.

Just from these examples this is my opinion:

Union J were just an attempt by Simon Cowell to create another One Direction but they just haven't been given the best material to work with but I wouldn't be surprised if they're dropped by the end of the year.

Pixie Lott came along at a good time when pop music was accounting for a lot of number ones but I don't think she was ever going to be a huge success and have decades worth of hits though I think with the right songs it could happen

The Saturdays had a lot of longevity and hits before they got their first number one and I do think they could still get another number one but they need to come back with a big hit single but even with a flop single I think they could bounce back as they do have a strong back catalogue.

Don't think Lilly Wood is going to pass 100k, only did 8.5k yesterday, oh well, Duke Dumont will probably end up doing the same next week.

On the other hand Royal Blood are a lock on sales of 70k+

Duke Dumont's pre-order is not doing big things so I'm not expecting much.

2 Maroon 5 - Maps (21.8k) *

3 David Guetta feat. Sam Martin - Lovers On The Sun (23.1k)

4 Taylor Swift - Shake It Off (21.7k)

What's the error with these, just so I'm clear?
