Wasn't 'Celebration' supported quite a bit on R1 too?

That was back in the days when she was supported though. It's only really since the last era that they stopped supporting her.

I wonder how radio 1 would cope with Madonna, if any of her songs chart in top 40. She is totally banned, right?

 

No, she's not totally banned. The only artists that are totally blacklisted from the station are probably people like Gary Glitter, etc.

I'm sure they'll play her if she charts top 40, and if she did get another big hit they'd probably give it a few spins outside the chart show (although I know obviously it's a bit of a circular situation).

Not sure about Radio 1, but I remember Galaxy FM played Celebration a lot (I think they played a remix though). They also played 4 Minutes (obviously) and Give It 2 Me.

Yeah I think that's right. The fact it wasn't A-Listed was picked up by the media at the time.

'Celebration' was her last single to be playlisted at all, mind you there was quite a gap between that and 'Give Me All Your Luvin'. So much can change in the pop landscape in 3 years.

Both seemed to have climbed a fair bit in the past few days. Hozier should definitely be looking at another re-peak this week and again next week, it's T5 on streaming and now #22 on iTunes.

Surely R1 didn't playlist 'Miles Away' either? Radio 2 certainly did, even though it was a mega flop.

 

But yeah, not being playlisted doesn't mean not getting played on the chart show.

Radio 1 play *everything* in the top 40 unless they can't due to no clean radio edit (see: Open Wide, Proper Moist, etc.) or special circumstances (Ding Dong). Paloma Faith's not been supported by Radio 1 in a while (aside from Ready For The Good Life being track of the day) but they still play her on the chart.

Yeah, and in any case 'Miles Away' came before 'Celebration' so the latter is still the last Madonna single they playlisted.
