Well done to Ben whatshisface for getting the worst Number 1 of 2014!

Don't worry we all know what the bigger hit will be in the long run ;)

Shame for Uptown Funk, but it'll be #1 for the next four weeks probably anyway, unless Philip George can do it.

Plus it's a bit of a bonus that it came out this early anyway, if Simon Cowell hadn't rocked the boat Ed would have been #2 with a sale miles behind Ben. I can't imagine there was much more than 25k in it.

Would have been so hilarious if he was actually announced at number 2 (with him there and everything).

Perhaps he'd have developed a "throat infection" and been unable to make it to the studio in that case.

I wouldn't say it was a novelty song, though its second chart run might count as a novelty purchase.

What about 'Dominick The Donkey' though?

That's one of the "songs" mentioned in this week's commentary.

PEOPLE ARE PAYING FOR RUBBISH? :-o

You silly British people. :)

I even can't disagree.

500.000 British stupid idiots bought that god-awful shit, also well-known as "Killing In The Name" in 2009.

I heard the original of Something I Need recently - it's quite good actually, but Ben's version is just dull. Also, I guess I kinda get why but is 'If we only die once/I wanna die with you' REALLY a lyric that needs to be changed 'live'?

Don't like either song left but slightly prefer Ben's. If only OneRepublic had chart success with it...

Scott Mills did that in 2009 but I think Joe whatshisface refused to go on the show and was on the 7pm show instead lol

Perhaps he'd have developed a "throat infection" and been unable to make it to the studio in that case.

Perhaps! Very conveniently too...

I even can't disagree.

Which is far better than the 400 thousand-odd fools who bought a crap cover.

Ben has sold 214k this week.

That's the same figure as given for 'x' - either a big coincidence or the OCC has mixed up one of those figures.

Next week's top 10 contender

Biography

Alessandro Lindblad, more commonly known as Alesso, was a DJ and dance music producer from Stockholm, Sweden. His career quickly gained mainstream recognition for his remixes of Tiësto, Swedish House Mafia, and Avicii, as well as his own productions. His first major achievement was in 2011 when his remix of Nadia Ali's track "Pressure" was one of the most successful EDM tracks of the year. Later in the same year, he placed in DJ Mag's Top 100 list, debuting at number 70. Early 2012 started well for him also, when he was named one of MTV's "one to watch," making his first BBC Radio 1 essential mix, and earning the track of the year award on Zane Lowe's prime-time Radio 1 slot for the single "Calling (Lose My Mind)." He also managed to move up many places in DJ Mag's DJ of the Year listings to number 20. He leaped to major success when he achieved a U.K. chart number one with his collaborative single "Under Control" alongside Calvin Harris and Hurts. - iTunes

As much as I hate that chart, it does have the better Christmas Number 1.

Mark Ronson for #1 next week than, we have #1 sales...
