I think he meant just for this week to be fair in which it would be interesting to see how the chart turns out with little mids info like a few years back.

I don't know if he will do 200k again this week -- there'll be a big drop off in sales after Thursday, and remember this week is therefore not a full week of Christmas affected sales.

I don't think Ed's sales will drop off that dramatically - the gift card effect can benefit albums somewhat (obviously not to the extent of pre-Christmas sales). Robbie Williams did 90k Christmas week last year and Ed's almost beaten that in 1 day (granted that there's an extra day of Christmas sales, but even without that he'd smash Robbie's sales still).

It's surely not hard to see his mass appeal? His music is totally inoffensive and very radio friendly, which helps him appeal to all age categories. I think he's more diverse than people let on also, the three x singles have all been totally different for example ~

I'm sorry but I don't see his mass appeal at all. I've only liked one song from this era and that's his current hit. I've listened to clips of both of his albums but he really doesn't appeal to me but maybe I'm in the minority as most people seem to love him. I find him boring and overrated.

That wasn't my point :kink: There's a difference between not being a fan (which is of course your own opinion and you're welcome to it) and not understanding the appeal, surely it's not hard to see where it comes from with Ed? Pleasant voice, radio friendly tracks, a very relateable guy, just very inoffensive in general.

I don't think it's been posted, but I saw a post by Tove Lo on Facebook that 'Heroes' is #4.

:cheer: Hope it stays top 5 :please: :teresa:

I always watch the totp Christmas Day edition it's a tradition like The snowman!

Eds sales Brillant again after wednyt he will slow down but should do 150-170k tho. Hope Ronson manages similar!!

I appreciate your point but I think you are missing my point. I don't actually like him much as an artist. I find him very boring and highly overrated. Its very hard to appreciate someone when you view them like that.

Let's just agree to disagree here.

By that token, "boring and overrated" is exactly what sells in huge numbers. It's why such people as David Gray, James Blunt, Dido, Emeli Sandé etc. have all sold such huge amounts of albums in the past.

MOR is a big money spinner.

I may be wrong but I get the feeling Ed Sheeran has much wider appeal than them, he is very popular with young people as well as the older demographic that were responsible for those people's success. I can see him having much more longevity than any of them as well.

"Overrated" is always a matter of opinion anyway. For me Dido is still the best recording artist of the last decade.

I like Dido and think she got far too much stick, but I still lump her in the same bracket as those MOR artists. :P

I predict it will be:

#1 Uptown Funk (obviously )

#2 Something I Need (obviously )

#3 Thinking Out Loud

#4 Up

#5 Heroes

#6 These Days

#7 Blank Space

#8 Night Changes

#9 Outside

#10 All About That Bass

Mostly based on iTunes but Up isn't on Spotify chart and Heroes is OK on streaming which could mean a chance for Heroes to end at #9 :cheer: Also the lead is about the same as Up on iTunes on the pop bars and slight difference from Heroes to Blank Space (though still love both :D). #9 #10 could also change and perhaps a boost from iTunes 11-20 could end up in the top 10

Dido is NOT boring! I demand closure of this thread on grounds of blasphemy!

Of course it is. I can take or leave Ed Sherran. Have liked a couple of his songs but don't own any of his albums. For me Olly Murs with has average bland voice, dodgy dancing and wall to wall promo falls into the overrated category. I fail to see any appeal but obviously others do.

I think some of Ed Sheeran's 'cooler' appeal comes from the fact that he worked very very hard to get where he is today.

I'm not saying he's the only one who did what he did in the years before his breakthrough but it gives him the credibility to add to his appeal.

No, it won't be closed, she is very boring. :P And I myself never understood the appeal of her. She doesn't sing well either. :(

And many members can't see the appeal of Ed Sheeran who is boring. But it's often more acceptable to state that opinion about someone irrelevant like Dido.

I don't understand what you want to say about this but fair enough lol.

To be fair she was once very much relevant and I thought the same about her at that time too. I don't dislike her just think she's nothingy.

She got that kind of criticism long before she became irrelevant. I for example thougt her songs were all boring
