The 2011 Comic Relief single was Gold Forever by The Wanted, I think.

Comic Relief Singles (2001+)

2001 - Westlife - Uptown Girl

2003 - Gareth Gates & The Kumars - Spirit in the Sky

2005 - McFly - All About You / Tony Christie & Peter Kay - (Is This the Way to) Amarillo?

2007 - Girls Aloud vs. Sugababes - Walk This Way / The Proclaimers & Brian Potter & Andy Pipkin - (I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles

2009 - The Saturdays - Just Can't Get Enough / Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon, featuring Tom Jones and Robin Gibb - Barry Islands in the Stream

2011 - The Wanted - Gold Forever / Susan Boyle & Geraldine McQueen - I Know Him So Well

2013 - One Direction - One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)

Take That's 'Happy Now' supported the 2011 Comic Relief sketch "Fake That".

They'd be fools to go for Union J. Yes they've had four top 10 singles but they've all absolutely crashed after their first week.

Not that The Vamps are much better - but they'd have a FAR better chance of having a decent hit. Possibly even a #1

It's a shame they stopped releasing the alternate Comic Relief singles in 2013, I guess it could return for 2015. Going on the trend, it will be a young-skewing act. Maybe The Vamps (as already suggested). Or they might pick a more internationally successful act since the last Comic Relief and Sport Relief singles were by 1D and Little Mix.

Great to see Philip George starting so well! Shame it's not going to be number one but I'm hoping it can hold on to 2, I suspect streaming may push it down a bit but a top 5 would be a great result!
I'd go so far as to say it's almost a certainty that it'll be The Vamps. They are very much the logical next step after the previous acts that did it.

Would absolutely LOVE it to be The Vamps! They don't seem to be doing anything else around February/March time, definitely not a new album around then as they're touring in April/May in support of Meet The Vamps.
I presume the alternative Comic Relief singles were dropped last year because in 2011 there were so many (remember George Michael as well) that they were all competing with each other for attention and sales.

That and they probably thought with 1D's fanbase there was no need to release another track...I hope we get an alternative track this year especially if it is The Vamps :drama:

After the (I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles single, the other two really did not perform that well so not really worth doing (I know Islands In the Stream got #1 but it dropped fast and sales were still pretty crap). As has also been mentioned they get more from focusing on pushing just one record than two. The sales of 1D's One Way Or Another (compared to some of the other serious comic relief singles) show that it was the right thing to do that year.

Still at 59p and seems to be making a slow return back up the charts. It 'debuted' at #74 after 3 weeks of charting in the T200 on streams alone, which I think is rather undeserving; hopefully it can pick up in the new year and be a slow burner a la "Take Me to Church", "Sail", "Sweater Weather" etc.

Google Play are continuing their 99p album deal so should give a decent boost to next weeks chart/sales - Today's are AC/DC, Calvin Harris and Lana Del Ray.
I Can see them getting Sam smith or George Ezra to do it this year.
I know it's probably perfectly obvious to everyone *but* me - but who the hell is Philip George?

I also wonder who Philip George is.

Seems the newer tracks like Alesso and Echosmith moving back upwards as the gift card effect lessens!

And they have George Ezra, Kasabian and the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack album priced at 99p

I also wonder who Philip George is.

He is the original co-founder of BuzzJack; his track "Wish You Were Mine" has been released as a tribute to Judith Chalmers who snubbed Phillip in 1997 when on holiday in Funchal recording for the TV holiday series Wish You Were Here.
