The most popular song of 2003 was 'Where Is the Love?' by the Black Eyed Peas (sales don't lie :kink:)

The top 10 singles for that year was:

In regards to cultural impact though, I'd argue that numbers 1, 5, 6, 7 & 8 would head the pack, so I definitely see what you mean :P 'Ignition Remix', 'Bring Me To Life' & 'Breathe' were absolute monster hits too though. 2003 was a good year all in all!

I don't think "Sound Of The Underground" was big in cultural impact in 2003, it's only Girls Aloud fans that were referencing that song in '03 tbh. It wasn't one those those songs that were setting school playgrounds alight or in every shop, every TV advert or every car passing by on the street like songs such as In Da Club or Crazy In Love.

Make Luv by Room 5 was another big tune in 2003 due to the very popular at the time Lynx advert.

Yay Icona Pop. Guess they released On Air/On Sale as there's probably not a chance radio will play it. Shame.

Really hope Natalie La Rose doesn't make #1. The true definition of reductive.

I would totally disagree here. I mean I'm a huge GA fan so I may be biased of course but Sound of the Underground is still so well-known to this day and stands out significantly amongst other British talent show winning singles because it's SO different. Plus it introduced the UK to the biggest girl group of the 21st Century. I think that constitutes a pretty big impact :P

I understand what you're saying but my main point is Sound Of The Underground wasn't a song that was inescapable in 2003, a person who didn't like that song could have easily avoided it for example unlike some other tunes that were knocking about at the time.

I'm really glad 'Black Magic' is holding up - I thought it would've plummeted by now. I imagine the video on Friday will give it a significant boost too. :)
Yep, they're climbing which is great to see! (They were at #270 something when I checked yesterday!) So, SO happy for them  'Flashlight' really isn't Jessie doing her usual vocal "acrobatics", at least not to the same extent. She's actually quite restrained on this and I love it the more I hear it!

Natalie La Rose climbing up pretty fast now that the release date is nearing closer! :D I think everyone's accepted that she most certainly won't be number 1 now (they did a few weeks ago I think, or at least I and a couple of others did), but I really hope she's definitely top 2! She's not going to be a week behind on streaming either, which should hopefully help her impact in the opening week!

YES Jesus J, slay those haters *.* :kink:

Glad to see Alesha doing very well following BGT, hope the song can go top 20 at least when released!

You are being biased - Sound of the Underground isn't a classic.

I never said it was a classic, I said it was still very well-known, which it is.

I'd say 'Sound Of The Underground' is a pop classic. It's a song that defined British pop in the early '00s, and still sounds fresh and original to this day.
I'd say Sound Of The Undergound was a classic. It's very well known.
I feel like there are different standards to what is considered a classic. When I first got interested in what was hot in the UK, there were sooooo many songs that I never heard of that were so big there (e.g. "Beggin'"  ), so I would consider "Sound Of The Underground" a classic to UK standards. It was well received, introduced a huge pop group from the 21st century, and was innovative back when it was released.

Its all about opinions i suppose but The Promise for me was by far their biggest hit and it was near the end of their career. I thought after that they were going to go on and transform into a group that could go on for another 10 years.

If you compare 2 songs on the list that and Crazy in Love there is no comparison for me. CIL is one of the biggest pop songs of the century and will be played in 50 years time still imo.

Cant check kworb at work, anyone have an update on some of the new singles - specifically The Weeknd & Disclosure?

 04. Where Are Ü Now (with Justin Bieber) - Skrillex & Diplo

 05. Don't Look Down (feat. Usher) - Martin Garrix

I suppose it was always destined to look down at some point
