After a few hard weeks, I’ve treated myself to the Ultimate Edition of KT Tunstall’s Drastic Fantastic-though it did arrive whilst I was teaching a live lesson :drama:

Added to my collection:

Michael Jackson - Off The Wall

Michael Jackson - Thriller

Michael Jackson - Bad

Michael Jackson - Dangerous

 The Dangerous artwork is a FEAST in all formats but especially vinyl *.* Always loved the Bad artwork and have grown in appreciation for the other two seeing them in all their glory. Can't wait to listen on my player, especially Bad and Dangerous, my two faves

Excellent additions Haus!

One thing has always bothered me about the Dangerous artwork and that is the inside song lyrics have pictures of things that you can find on the cover... aside from Black or White which has a picture of a zebra. I've spent ages trying to find that zebra on the cover but I'm convinced it isn't there!

ps the production on the Dangerous album sounds absolutely phenomenal on vinyl. There's a bit of an issue with sibilance but there are some jaw dropping moments, especially on the second disc. When Black or White fully gets going after the intro is a moment to make you feel alive, then the production on Who Is It and Will You Be There is also mind blowing, when the beat kicks in on the latter and the choirs, it's just joyous!

They looked amazing in the picture you sent me, Bal  I haven't got any MJ in my collection as my brother has him covered with his own records but maybe one day when we no longer live in the same house. Right now it seems a bit pointless to duplicate when I can just borrow his with ease!

Had a bit of a pay day splurge today:

Ava Max - Heaven & Hell (blue vinyl)

Bicep - Isles (deluxe, orange vinyl)

KLF - The White Room (*.* from eBay of course with a lot of their catalogue still being deleted :kink:)

You Me At Six - SUCKAPUNCH (transparent violet vinyl)

Also bidding on Now 21 as I slowly continue to grow that collection. Pre-ordered Lana's new album earlier in the month too - the alternate red one from HMV.

Good to hear you are growing your Now collection Jade. I’m still missing Nows 34 and 35.

I've been largely extending my collection of some older acts this month as I've been killing time by looking through the vast amount of sales out there

David Bowie: Ziggy Stardust, Hunky Dory, "Heroes", Station to Station

The Beatles: Revolver

Saint Etienne: Foxbase Alpha, So Tough, Tiger Bay, Continental, Finisterre, Home Counties, Tales From Turnpike House, Foxbase Beta, Words and Music, London Conversations

Pet Shop Boys: Actually, Behaviour, Very, Fundamental

New Order: Substance, Power Corruption and Lies, Technique, Republic

Depeche Mode: Black Celebration, Music For The Masses, Ultra

Madonna: Bedtime Stories, American Life

A-ha: Hunting High and Low, Scoundrel Days

The Cure: The Head on the Door, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me

Justin Timberlake: FutureSex/LoveSounds, The 20/20 Experience, The 20/20 Experience pt II

Whilst I have always liked Saint Etienne, I'd only really paid close attention to their singles but I'm finding that their albums really are a joy

^ wow thats a lot of albums and a Lot of St Etienne <3 it's one of the most under-rated UK indie bands ever

from your list of newies I only have A-ha - Scoundrel Days, which for some reason I bought as a kid on vinyl, even thought I was never a big A-ha fan...

I got the most beautiful vinyl ever,

from the soundtrack of the movie Once by The Swell Season (Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova),

the soundtrack came out in 2006 I think but they've now made a new vinyl edition in blue, so so beautiful :)

it's a new pressing from MOV (Music on Vinyl), so you have to find a shop affiliated with MOV, but there are many. In 2017 MOV did a transparent vinyl and now they'd done the blue one. Tricky thing is both have the same catalog number, but I asked my record store here to ask for the latest pressing and it turned out to be the blue one.

They have a story locator on their website:

I think I figured out how to post pics,

this is the beautiful blue variant from the Once soundtrack:

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of good, reliable, affordable sites to browse when purchasing vinyls? What do you guys use (and then maybe I can compile the list and edit into the opening post here).

I always feel lost with where to start searching away from the obvious ones of Amazon, ebay etc.

That's not a bad idea actually.

I quite often use the Discogs Marketplace for buying records that you can't easily find in a store as it tells you all items available from their sellers and the grades of the vinyl, not sure how well people know the grading system but I personally wouldn't ever buy anything that is less than a VG+ rating. A lot of the sellers also sell new vinyl but you have to be wary as sometimes some of them are just trying to make a quick profit when you can still get it new from a 'normal' retailer cheaper. It also tells you the sales history of the item so you can work out if you're being overcharged or not. It's a bit like eBay, you need to check out the feedback etc to see whether people say the seller grades their records honestly or not.

It's also a really good way of finding out your options around a release as it lists all the variants available, the only snag is that it becomes a bit all consuming if you get addicted.

I had a browse on one of the dance shops on there yesterday for about an hour and ended up spending over £100 eek but for that I did get the following 12" singles so I'm still happy:

KLF - What Time Is Love

KLF - 3AM Eternal

Ayla - Ayla

Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel

Cygnus X - The Orange Theme

Underworld - Born Slippy [Nuxx]

Wildchild - Renegade Master 08

New Order - True Faith 94

Sasha - Xpander EP

The Blueboy - Remember Me

The Bucketheads - The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall In To My Mind)

Billie Ray Martin - Your Loving Arms

Space Manoeuvres - Stage One

Cornershop - Brimful of Asha (Norman Cook Mix)

Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400

Digitalism - Pogo Remixes

Mike Koglin - The Silence

Utah Saints - Ohio

ETA - Casual Sub

BT - Flaming June

I also managed to find the albums by Utah Saints and The Grid on vinyl too so I've picked those up before they sold. I hope they're as great as I remember them being but they will be a good nostalgia trip either way.

I'm really looking forward to them arriving as I'm hoping they'll sound awesome ^_^

How I wish I'd bought all my 90s dance singles on vinyl instead of CD as I have loads, they would be worth an absolute fortune now.

A member on Popjustice is in the early stages of trying to launch a vinyl re-issue business! A few 90s/00s niche/cult pop releases, including Siobhan Donaghy, Holly Valance, Rachel Stevens and Eternal albums, could materialise as launch titles. All Saints are also listed!

They've made a little questionnaire, so if any of you are interested in some of the suggested titles that are listed, it would be great if you could fill it in. :D There is an "other" option if there's something else you can think of, but it should probably be an artist in the same vein as those that are listed.

They have said that it would be a dream to get to the point of being able to press albums like Girls Aloud, but that they might be too big to begin with.

It would be great if this happens. I'd certainly love to be able to own Rachel Stevens - Come and Get It on vinyl!

Plastic Pop’s launch title is Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Read My Lips!

Universal Music UK and Sophie Ellis-Bextor were involved in this; Sophie chose the vinyl colour and the pressing uses master copies of the songs!

Yesss I managed to order that with a discount (hopefully still available!) earlier Jay  really looking forward to seeing what other pop gems they can release on vinyl, may have already submitted a request for a purple 'Tangled Up' vinyl - maybe one day :kink:

Pre-orders and purchases since I last posted in here (lol, will try and restrain myself for the rest of the month now):

Adam Ant - Goody Two Shoes [7" single]

Adam and the Ants - Deutscher Girls [7" single]

Ariana Grande - positions [green coke bottle vinyl]

Celeste - Not Your Muse

Doja Cat - Hot Pink [pink vinyl]

Pet Shop Boys - Discography: The Complete Singles Collection

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Read My Lips [red vinyl]

Ooh that dance music haul Dandy, so many great songs  I love trawling through the electronic section of my biggest local independent record store. I look forward to being able to do that again at some point </3 and hope you manage to get a hold of those Now albums eventually, Jester! I'm dreading getting up to the 30s for the price reasoning, definitely a collection that I've been spacing out purchases for. That vinyl looks gorgeous, Bjork! + welcome to the VC Whoddy :cheer:

P.s. I actually made a 2nd instagram account for my vinyl collection to slowly create a record of the entire thing in photos. Feel free to follow if interested, thought it was worth a mention here. This hobby is only heightening in lockdown

Banquet Records are good - as are Drift (https://driftrecords.com/)

Worth looking around at both as sometimes there are some bargains - as Dandy* says if no joy on eBay, discogs is a really good option for record collectors. I've had some really friendly exchanges on there and managed to grab a few bargain vinyl too. : )
