December 15, 201510 yr Is there a particular reason Slade aren't doing very well this year? I feel like Slade's status as a huge Christmas song has gradually been replaced by Mariah and the Pogues in the last decade or so. Back in the 1990s - even early 2000s to an extent - it felt like the absolute biggest one and the most played every year, I think it just isn't being adopted as strongly by the next generation of music buyers/streamers. If the trend continues, look forward to hearing 'Christmas Lights' and 'One More Sleep' all the time in twenty years or so :P
December 15, 201510 yr ^^ Yeh exactly Mariah especially is still adored by young music buyers now. Just the same phenomena i expect happened in the 70/80s with old perennials like Bing, Nat King Cole and Dean Martin as pop music buyers bought and listened to new pop xmas songs like slade, wizzard and Paul McCartney. That said Wizzard seems to be doing just as well maybe because it is child friendly with the Phil Spectoresque jiongles so maybe more appealing. I also have no doubt Coldplay, leona and Kelly Clarkson will be remembered in the future.
December 15, 201510 yr The last thing X Factor needs is more negative publicity which is what'll happen if Louisa doesn't make #1 this week or next week. I can see it happening, and the press will have a field day, despite the fact they've been complaining for years about X Factor getting the Christmas #1. I think complaining about X Factor getting the Christmas #1 is so 2009 anyway.
December 15, 201510 yr Justin is gaining now! Never thought I say this but Bieber I love you (stand to make £400) if he's Christmas number one.

December 15, 201510 yr Something other than Louisa may pop up next week :P That's very true. Here's hoping! The streaming points are so large it's going to be so hard to dethrone him. I don't even think Louisa will make it this week, she's missed out on 2 days of sales her streaming is pants and she's already decreased her lead to nearly 30% with Justin's other version.
December 15, 201510 yr Louisa at #9 today (OCC FB page) XFactor winner Louisa Johnson is on course to enter the Official Singles Chart Top 10 with her winner’s single Forever Young after just 24 hours on sale, Official Charts can confirm. Released too late on Sunday evening (December 13) to make an appearance on yesterday’s Official Chart Update, Louisa’s Bob Dylan cover debuts at Number 9 on today’s Sales Flash (December 15).
December 15, 201510 yr Not sure how Louisa is doing on streaming, might have to wait a while to find out how she's doing on spotify but last time I checked she was 7 on apple music's streaming chart
December 15, 201510 yr I would love something to come out of nowhere next week, SURELY record companies and artists can see what an opportunity this is to bag a Xmas No.1 on potentially only 100k sales! Surprised nobody has started a Mariah campaign actually, it could do about 40k streaming sales next week so I'm sure it could muster 60k sales with a push (it will probably get 15k of 'natural sales' anyway).

December 15, 201510 yr I don't think Louisa will dethrone Love Yourself either, which is really crap for her. LY is already gaining on iTunes, her sales seem a bit limp and I don't think her physical will help her pull ahead. The Thursday cut-off point this year has a lot to do with it since Love Yourself already had a 40k headstart. Simon might want to rethink the release strategy of next year's winner.

Probably about 17k-18k on day one then? Disaster :o
December 15, 201510 yr ^ Yes, I just saw this and the sale should be around 17-18k for yesterday. I doubt that Love Yourself sold much less than that...
December 15, 201510 yr Ben Haenow did 47,001 CDs in four days last year. What's Louisa going to shift in two, maybe 20,000 if she's lucky?

She will most likely climb to the top as she releases the single tomorrow on CD
December 15, 201510 yr She will most likely climb to the top as she releases the single tomorrow on CD I'd say she'll be No.1 next week rather than this week, with the cd out and a full 7 days' sales. Heard someone asking for the CD single in Tescos yesterday. Edited December 15, 201510 yr by Common Sense
