Yeah I think this is a good point - winning singles haven't exactly correlated with post-show success. Leona's winning single, whilst it did well, is "only" the fourth or fifth biggest single I believe? Yet her success after the show was off the scale. On the other hand, James Arthur did nowhere near as well as his winning single with anything from his album. It's not over for Louisa yet.

on the other hand the winners of the x factor, and its precursors (idol and popstars), who’ve sold less than 200k of their coronation single in a week - michelle (118k), steve brookstein (127k) & sam bailey (149k) - have consistently been resounding flops... ;)

Was the sales climate not better for them and didn't they have 2 extra days of sales?

I wouldn't quite call Sam a flop, her album did fairly well. Syco chose not to invest in her or any further singles, or she could have sold more?

Jordin Sparks had the lowest Idol coronation single at the time she won but went only to get 4 top 20's, and 3 tops 10's with her debut album and singles.

I know that's in the US but I just thought I'd point it out?

And who is Michelle?

Mcmammoth.

Oh dear Mirror Man mk#23 has bowled up..

Sam Bailey is currently in a Panto in Aylesbury, I'd call that a flop tbh

Of course a bad start for Louisa doesnt mean its over, but its (likely) chart performance will make headlines and that isnt too helpful going forward, especially when the knives are out for XFactor.

Sam Bailey big flop.... so over rated at the time.... only mothers day 1 year gave her inflated sales...... nothing to her.
I really hope X factor doesn't make number one. They take it for granted every year by releasing a lousy cover version which shows no originality or effort. it would be great to have something different at the top but this year the competition is quite poor.
Even if Louisa does climb to #1 next week, the trouble is is that streaming has taken the bloom off the significance of having a Christmas #1. It used to be that every major pop act released stuff in December or a couple of weeks before with the aim of getting a Christmas number one, and that's what made it exciting and newsworthy. Like I remember when the whole Bob the Builder beating Westlife battle happened at Christmas 2000 and it was even on News at 10. Unless your name is Justin Bieber and/or some random DJ with a faceless dance act with big Spotify support you're getting nowhere near the top these days. There is no battle to have because of the ratio streaming occupies these days, and it'll stay that way until it's more accessible.
From Mint Royale....Even Ben Haenow got to no.1. He sold 214,000 copies in his first week. Louisa is on 24,752 copies so far.

shocking,I thought two days of itunes lead would be more

Wow that is bad... I know XF is in a terminal decline, but I did think she would be selling at least double that - especially given how some acts have had big boosts due to appearing on there still (Nathan Sykes/ Fleur etc)

I think the X Factor took the bloom off the significance of having a Christmas #1 a long time ago. Nobody really cares anymore as its always a foregone conclusion, last year was the first time a normal song actually came within a chance of winning. Also I think since downloads/spotify really took off artists have been trying to cash in on the gift card effect so are releasing songs around Christmas with the knowledge that it'll probably go to no.1 in the new year and will have larger sales due to people having money to spend on buying just music. That's partly what made the Christmas #1 such a big thing before as it was the time of year single and albums sales would go through the roof so everybody released songs to capitalise on the inflated sales.

But anyway interesting that its struggling so much this year and I'm glad it is. Its about time that a normal song outsells it just from its popularity alone, for once I'm rooting for Justin Bieber to win this week

I just think it's doing so badly because it's possibly the worst X-Factor song choice (IMO) it's bland boring and not relevant to anything, not to mention it doesn't have a strong core message at least not one people can relate to like other X-Factor songs.

It's nothing to do with Louisa as an artist at all or the fact that X-Factor is in decline, it's simply because it just wasn't a very emotional song that the audience could 'share the winning moment with her'

yeah I reckon this

I've watched a few of her performances online and think she's one of the best singers I've seen on X factor but when I heard her winners song on the radio it literally just passed me by. doesn't show off her vocals and the song is dull at best. I think the fact that the viewing figures are way down obviously doesn't help but if she'd released something like don't let go by en vogue as an example top of my head then I'm sure she's be selling a lot more.
