04 Bon Appetit (feat. Migos)

Would've worked better in my opinion, I really can't argue against the lead single at all but I do think Bon Appetit was a misfire of a second single.

Chained to the Rhythm

Witness

Swish Swish

I feel like Swish Swish towards the end of summer would have worked better. It doesn't really feel like a lead single album seller, especially after Bon Appetit. It seems more like the song that could breathe some life into a campaign, like Side to Side did.

My problem is the lazy songwriting, half of the songs are just dreadful in that sense. For example the chorus of Tsunami sounds like a writer knows only 100 words and had already used 95 of them. You can have Purity Ring and Jack Garratt producing your songs but they can't help if the lyrics don't make sense or fit into the songs

She's coming out as a real person with the therapy sessions etc which is cool but also seem a bit calculated (as this is the album release week and opening up about your past NOW seems a bit... oh well if it helps her then it's obviously good) but it makes me feel uncomfortable as I wouldn't invite anyone to my therapy sessions tbh

oh joe come on CTTR was a BRILLIANT first single choice!

Even before CTTR?

I said or second i just meant instead of Bon Appétit really which didn't take off.

#5 in the mids here on just over 10k. Shocking. She really should be doing some UK promo.
I've listened in full and it's true that it's really not a bad album. A bit long maybe with not so many immediate standouts but I see no reason why it won't grow on me once I get more familiar. It might help that I've heard these two a few more times, but 'Hey Hey Hey' and 'Roulette' are my favourites out of the album tracks. 'Swish Swish' is my favourite song around right now, although Nicki's verse makes up most of my affection.
Any ideas if the 17 track deluxe version can be found in the UK? From what i've read online it's only available from certain shops in certain countries?
I got it from her official store when you had to pre-order to get pre-sale tickets. It came to like £13.50/99 with postage.

1. Why was 'Roulette' not the second single? Sounds like such an obvious smash. Hope it's next.

2. 'Miss You More' is her best ever ballad.

3. Can't get over the fact Hot Chip produced 'Into Me You See'. It's such a damp squib of a song, usually everything they touch is absolute GOLD.

Quite honestly I only like Swish Swish, CTTR and Roulette. :( Some of these sound like unfinished demos. It's disappointing to see her fart this out after being away for quite a long time.

'Roulette' is gooood though! Reminds me a bit of Eurythmics.

I would disagree with this. The main place the album excels is in its production. It has a very clean, defined sound. Where it lacks is in its melodies and choruses, which just aren't there for a lot of songs.

I have to agree, for me the production is a strong element of this album, very cohesive. It's intricate and even rather sublime!

I'm enjoying 'Witness'! I appreciate that she's stepped outside of her artistic comfort zone and taken some risks here. I never knew I'd want a track with a vibe like Tsunami from her. *.* I would say that in her experimentation that she's sacrificed some stronger hooks, certain tracks could have done with a boost, but overall there's enough here that I'm very happy with.

The three singles, Roulette, Power, Witness, Pendulum and Hey Hey Hey are all personal highlights (surprised the latter got a bad reception!), and Act My Age is a cute bop with a defiant sentiment.

PRODUCTION?!

The whole thing sounds like bad BJSC entries from start to finish!

Only Bon Appetite, Roulette and CTTR stand out from this beige, repetitive sound, and only CTTR is up there for the quality expected from an AAA pop star.

Worse than I had anticipated at the start of the week, that is really quite bad. Hoping that Swish Swish gets a video soon and ends up being a big hit for her soon. Just over 16k in the first week is really not good...

MusicWeek gave us total sales for her other albums too in the UK:

'Teenage Dream has sold 1,308,384 thus far, with One Of The Boys on 700,261 sales and Prism on 440,272.'
