July 9, 20169 yr Ah, I went to Northampton in the 70's for a College mate 21st birthday party. I suspect everyone is still trying to go back to the 70's. (Trust me, it wasn't that great). Leadsom has just run a campaign of pure lies, has messed up the economy (despite pouts to the contrary) and claims to have her children's interests at heart. Well, she has: she's donated well over a million into an offshore inheritance tax dodging scheme to make sure whatever happens to the economy her lovely children will still be millionaires (Private Eye this week - her brother specialises in offshore banking companies). If this is not true I'm sure Private Eye will be in court soon for spreading malicious lies. That all kinda makes me not believe anything she claims she believes in. Andrea Loathsome I call her....
July 9, 20169 yr The transcript has been published. It seems she's taking objection to her frankly worthless 'I'M NOT TRYING TO MAKE A POINT ABOUT HOW HAVING KIDS MAKES YOU A BETTER PRIME MINISTER...*does so*' preamble not being reported verbatim. God, imagine someone this clueless and inept at making a subtextual point being in charge of EU negotiations. At this point, Leadsom's supporters called for the recording of the interview to be made public. The Times duly obliged. Now that I've heard her say it, with the inflection audible, it sounds worse that it did when I read it. Clueless doesn't even begin to describe her.
July 9, 20169 yr What makes things even better is she was spouting nonsense on Twitter last night how it was not true. I'd be surprised if she lasted 1 year if she was elected PM.
July 9, 20169 yr Leadsom's reputation of being the UK's answer to Donald Trump continues, although I have a feeling that this statement from her will actually increase her level of support, as vile as her comments were. Isabel Hardman has made this exact point today in The Spectator. Key quote - But there is a still a political benefit to Leadsom in this row. She has been attacked for talking about her family values in the press. If the Conservative leadership contest is to follow the same lines of the Labour leadership contest now that it has reached the Childlessness Debate, a sense that the Establishment is attacking you and trying to keep you out of the top job is pretty helpful in appealing to grassroots members. Leadsom has been attacked by many papers for her views and her CV, and her supporter Penny Mordaunt has just told the Today programme that the contest as a whole has been ‘really poor’, with people trying to keep the candidate off the ballot paper. There is a clear attempt here to set up a victim narrative, something that has helped Jeremy Corbyn stay in place because his grassroots supporters have sympathy with him. This interview will have a big impact on the leadership contest, but perhaps not in the way we might expect. I must admit that until I'd read that piece I'd forgotten that the "children vs childlessness" debate came up in the Labour Party leadership contest as well between Cooper & Kendall. People have short memories when it comes to politics, and I am indeed people.
July 11, 20169 yr May is the least horrifying of the two but it's still a frightening prospect. If she bins Osbourne tho...
July 11, 20169 yr At least we don't have to worry that someone without a clue will be taking the country forward. That is about the only good thing that can be said for it though.
July 11, 20169 yr I don't think Theresa offered her anything specifically. She probably - quite wisely - looked at how likely it was she'd get thrashed and thought she'd save her reputation by ducking out and letting a myth grow that it might have been close.
July 11, 20169 yr Leadsom was a bit of an embarrassment to say the least, May will at least know what she's doing which is about the best we can hope for  Given just a few weeks ago the possibility of Boris Johnson as PM was very real, I'm more than ok with this.
July 11, 20169 yr Thankfully Andrea made the right decision and now at least we stand a chance of making Brexit work under Theresa's leadership! Chancellor? According to her CV she will be :basil:
July 13, 20169 yr Oh well, that didn't last long. May has made Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Foreign Secretary. Any respect I had for her has gone already.
July 13, 20169 yr is this a wind-up?! A moron charged with serious world issues. Just when we all hoped his PM ambitions were dead, like Dracula he rises from the grave ready to suck the blood out of all of us. I mean that in a caring way.

Just when we all hoped his PM ambitions were dead, like Dracula he rises from the grave ready to suck the blood out of all of us. I mean that in a caring way. Probably promised to him when he dropped out. While it's disappointing, let's honest, it's kind of a crap position. Also despite everything he claims he's actually more pro-immigration and liberal. I don't think her appointments have been that bad. Largely they're very liberal minded while still appeasing the right of the party.
July 13, 20169 yr Foreign Secretary was probably handed out as punishment to Boris, it will be a LOT of hard work - and if he makes a mess of it he will be scapegoated and his career over.

Good point. Whilst I'm not fond of Boris, he did do a good job during the London 2012 Olympic games as major, so am hoping he'll work hard and do well as foreign secretary.
July 13, 20169 yr Just saying.... Take a look at @SunApology's Tweet: https://twitter.com/SunApology/status/75332...7267807232?s=09 Head of MI5. That ends Idris Elbe's chances of James Bond then...
