He will have to do serious promo to make up ground, i think a top 5 would be a good result if he can manage it.

It's a nice enough song but like I'd much rather Ed just sang it  It feels like a song Ed didn't think was good enough for his album and Simon Cowell went rooting through the bins to find it and gave it to Matt. At best if it was his he'd give it away free on the week of Christmas or something. It's not a song that would suit either of the finalists and it's not much more exciting or different than the usual cover tbh, but it's nice to have an original and Christmas song in the charts rather than a tepid cover of an old song I guess.
Matt Cardle i would rate 100 times better than Matt Terry. I would love to see Matt Cardle do what James Arthur has managed.
I know the Winner's singles don't generally have the most longevity, but I do think it's odd to give Matt a song that has a 2 week shelf life by choosing a Christmas song...
It confused me at first too tbh then I realised it's to avoid a rerun of last year where the single had three weeks top 75. They must realise the show is well past its heyday so that the best way to go is to anticipate the short chartlife by making it artificially short anyway. They are also DESPERATE for Christmas no.1 to stop the press having a field day saying the show is over after last year.

I know, its just crazy, I really don't know what they were thinking, Ed Sheeran could have released it himself and had a #1 with it.

It make sense though. Releasing a Christmas song is the best chance they have of getting the Christmas #1 again.

Matt Terry doing porno this week could potentially help too

If Ed Sheeran had released this under his name on the 1st December it would have been HUGE - probably immediately A Listed by all the radio stations and straight in at no1 and 4 weeks there imo!
Maybe but he probably got paid a lot to write the song for The X Factor winner, and it's not like he's losing relevance and desperately needs a hit single right now.

Wasn't simon's label taken Ed to court over his song sounding alot like Matt Cardle's earlier in the year? Then Ed's wrote the winner single, I think more chance simon saying we will stop the court case etc if you write the single for free because I haven't heard nothing of this court case since, And abit fishy how Ed would be writing the winners single for a label that is currently sueing him.

Dont know just a thought.

I thought it was the songwriters that were suing Ed rather than the label, but I guess that could've been a possibility.
Why IS Simon Cowell so obsessed with monopolising the Christmas number one anyway? It makes no sense, especially after Rage Against The Machine when he ACTED so contrite and promised to not go after it again for usurping a British tradition ...
The violins remind me a bit of Passenger - Let Her Go, just the sound not the melody.

He's not. He hasn't been after the xmas #1 since Rage, and has left it for bland charity covers to get there instead of XF covers. It's not to get Christmas #1 at all. I think it's more about how much cheaper it is to go for a shorter shelf life (won't have to bother with a video for example, no physical CD available). Plus if it only goes 14-9-56-OUT they have an excuse. Unlike last year.
