#1 on about 68k sales, with room for a potential ~80k debut.

Basically, I can't call it. I feel like we might be slightly over estimating the popularity of the grime scene in general, but at the same time, this seems to be appealing to people who aren't generally fans of grime... maybe a solid start with extremely strong staying power as opposed to HUGE first week sales with 40%-ish drops for couple of weeks after or something?

Hasn't stopped it from going to #1 on iTunes

Which means very little most of the time - there have been many albums go to #1/Top 3 on iTunes and fall well short officially of the Top 20.

Using some very rough calculations - I believe Stormzy could be on for about 20K SES.

So only around 30K digital/physical sales needed for a >50K opening. Very likely IMO.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a certain 'I don't like the music so I voted for misses the Top 40 with less than 20,000 sales' post

Nah, I just made a null vote.

Have a listen. Even middle aged white men should enjoy it.

I didn't say I hadn't listened to it.

However, I've never been a fan of music I regard as aggressive and/or intrusive, even back in the punk era of the late 70's. That's not what I look for in the music I listen to - I prefer more upbeat feel-good songs.

I'm beginning to wonder if you are Stormzy's publicist... :w00t:

Nah, I just made a null vote.

So you can't predict because you don't like him? I'm no fan of Stormzy's but it doesn't stop me estimating his sales.

No. He is only illustrating that you that you are making an assumption that Stormzy's music is aggressive.

It is clearly obvious you haven't listened when half of the album is very vulnerable and has a lot of softer and melodic moments. He is only showing you up for having an opinion that isn't even informed by any knowledge of the music you are talking about.

Am I supposed to listen to every album that comes out, even those of genres I dislike, on the off chance there's something on there I might like?

Even I was so inclined, I simply don't have the *time* to do that.

Nah, it's more the assumption that because he's black all of the music he makes must be aggressive.

Also !!!!! at the sheer GIVEAWAY of you referring to a black man in the charts as being intrusive!

Not every album. Just this album seems a little overhyped so why not see what the hype is about rather than making assumptions. It's good to be open minded :) I'm aware ignorance can prevail in mainly the older generation so just wanted to inform you that the album has songs you may like :)

This is a prediction thread, so no need for anyone to be upset at people's perspectives/opinion. That's for another thread.

That is not what I'm saying at all. Don't listen to the album, that's your prerogative and completely your choice to make. Good on you.

But don't then come in this thread and start running your mouth about how much you dislike it and how aggressive it is when you haven't even listened to it. It makes you come across ignorant and probably worse than that, completely deluded if you think people are going to take your uninformed and assumptive opinions as valid or even take them an iota seriously.

I'm *not* the guilty party here.

I wasn't even in this thread until someone suggested that I would have given it a bad position/sales estimate regardless (OK, I wasn't mentioned by name, but no-one disputed it when I responded). All I said was that I gave it a null vote, because I wanted to see how the voting went.

I don't post estimates on rap songs/albums nowadays for the very reason I know I cannot be impartial.

I did check out a couple of songs on YT though, and the ones I heard, I *did* consider to be aggressive, so I was not lying by making the comment I did. Then, there were even suggestions of racism - that I didn't like the songs just because the artist was black. :(

That is annoying, because I don't like songs by Eminem & other white rappers either - also, I *do* like songs by other black artists - Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Rihanna, Beyonce etc.

I make no apologies for my views of rap music, nor would I expect anyone here to have to apologize for their own personal music preferences - but please don't make accusational claims of false motives!

Regards,

Never mind vidcapper, I hear Barry Manilow has an album coming out soon!

Maybe him and Stormzy can battle Ed Sheeran in the charts over the next few weeks.
