Dear God that's depressing. People only really like Ed Sheeran because they're told to like him, his songs are average at best.

Agreed tbh.

I like CotH and SoY is ok, but he isn't some musical deity sent by Apollo!

'Solo Dance' climbing so fast :o

I honestly couldn't give a flying Judi Dench who writes the song, if it's a good song it's a good song!

you haven't changed at all

I don't understand the Judi Dench reference

I know Lethal Bizzle is obsessed with Dench though  Speaking of Bizzle I would like to see him back in the charts soon, I do like quite a few of his songs.

I think being a songwriter of a persons own material helps people like the artist as well as the material. For start the artist is much more able to articulate the thought and process behind the song when interviewed and surely has a more personal connection to it thus can sell it better during performances.

Someone like you is obviously a great song but it was when Adele nailed it with every drop of emotion she had pouring into the song during the Brits that it became one of the songs of the century and cemented Adele as the artist she is.

There's something about Lethal Bizzle that stops me really liking him, but if he could make a song as irresistible as 'Fester Skank' I'd be all for it! Rariworkout and Playground were good too.

I'm quite happy about Solo Dance getting that high, it's growing on me a lot and it's very good the only part that let's it down is the generic drop in the chorus :( but I'm pleased it's getting bigger anyhow!

I think it just shows how much being front page on Hot Songs can help. It was around 35 on Thursday IIRC but it has now shot up into the top 10 thanks to being on the front page.

I'm happy about it too, I quite like the drop but the vocals really are amazing!

It's also due to its 59p reduction ^_^

For someone co-writing the song, that could surely mean the artist writes all the lyrics but others had input into the melody and musicality?

Like for example, most traditional pop artists aren't going to do all the production on the song themselves.

Yeah exactly! Songwriters naturally have different talents and it's probably quite hard to craft a whole song by yourself. Not many artists do it, Taylor Swift wrote the entirety of Speak Now and co-produced all of it too, Alanis Morrisette did the same with Jagged Little Pill. But I think to know all the components for a chart hit today, to have that ear for it, it's very hard for one person to do it all! It's probably more common for these singer-songwriter types in rock or country to write their songs because it's a more organic and clean sound that's probably a bit easier to craft on your own with your own ideas.

oh ffs Human's doing a Can't Stop The Feeling. GO AWAY ALREADY

EDIT: Human back  to #02

Glen Ballard co-wrote all the music on Jagged Little Pill and co-produced it.

I don't really approve of producers getting co-writing credits, but I know some of them do.
