Does Train somehow climbing to #44 mean all Spotify data could be missing from this update?

It has a second version in the iTunes top 100 so that's just the Now 96 effect. There'll be at least one day of Spotify I'm sure.

(edit: oops, beaten to it!)

Had hoped for much better sales for Take That after their show, looks like they will sell less than last week

I really thought Harry would have much higher sales today than he has (even counting in estimated streams)

It's obvious there is something missing, the Ed tracks and Clean Bandit can't be THAT much down on last week.

And likewise, that also means Harry's figure will be higher. Perhaps it'll be a little closer when the missing sales are added, though I doubt it'll make much difference to the number 1 on Friday.

Whatever way you slice it those sales for Harry are disappointing (even if a few extra k are added in).

Agreed he only getting the number 1 due to low sales I'd hav e expected much more

I'd have expected higher sales if this song was pandering to the current trends and was half the length it actually is, but it's a bold move for a debut single and if someone less known than Harry released this, it wouldn't be going anywhere near #1, so it's doing just fine I'd say.

Yeah Harry song would never have even debuted top 20 if it were released by say The xx or London Grammar for example. It sounds like an album seller, not a radio hit and the main reason it's done the numbers it has is because he's Harry Styles. For the type of song it is, it's done impressively, very few other artists would have done those numbers with the same song. If he'd released something as generic as Shape Of You, it would have been on double the sales already.

Also looking back the last person to get a week at #1 was actually ZAYN, I wonder if Liam will get a week at #1 next when he releases his solo material at some point.

What utter tosh! The Harry song is both credible and commerical, that's why it's doing well. Since when is releasing something as appaulingly generic like Shape Of You to be applauded?? Isn't it pretty questionable whether Sheeran has many original bones in his body - see yesterday's press!

Sales do not equate to quality, nor do chart positions.

^That's what he's saying, that Harry's song is not generic, and that's why it's selling less

Yes, you've literally made points completely unrelated to what I said. No where have I mentioned that sales equate to quality, nor have I applauded Shape of You being generic? I'm simply saying that Harry's sound is somewhat risky, and isn't generally the sound that the general public buys and streams en masse at the moment.

I don't think Harry's song is commercial at all, except in the sense of the term that it will sell, and that's mainly on brand recognition and loyalty.

It's over 5 minutes long and doesn't sound remotely like anything else in the charts at the minute.

It looks like the race for the UK’s Official Number 1 single will go right down to the wire this week.

According to Official Charts Company data, Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You is closing the gap on Harry Styles’ Sign Of The Times, separated by 8,000 units (downloads and streaming equivalent sales) in today’s sales flash (April 12).

Earlier this week on the Official Chart Update, Harry had a lead of 15,500 over his closest competition, Sheeran’s Galway Girl. The gap between Harry and Ed has since halved, as reigning chart topper Shape Of You continues to be a runaway hit on streaming services, pushing it up from Monday’s position at Number 3 to Number 2 today. However, Harry is performing well on downloads, currently outrunning Shape Of You by 3:1.

The One Direction star’s debut release has so far racked up 47,000 copies across all formats, versus Shape Of You’s 39,000, and there’s still 48 hours to go in this week’s chart race.

Gosh, upweighted streams on Friday makes me think Shape might just do it :(
Looking likely that 'Shape Of You' will be number one this week then! To think we all thought that Harry's biggest challenger would be 'Symphony'! Unless 'Symphony' starts pulling away on Spotify I can see 'Shape Of You' hanging on next week too considering it's 120,000+ current Spotify lead!

The 1D fans will need to organise some more streaming parties!

I'm astonished how low Harry's sales are. Commercial or not, I'd have expected anything with his name attached to shift at least 80k first week on fanbase and curiosity sales/streams alone :o
