I just don't understand how ~1,500 people every day can buy it after all this time - after 4 months of it being hammered by would you purchase it? :unsure:

Not everyone follows the charts as closely as we do here. If people have just heard it every now and again, they might just be getting round to buying it now

At some point in my life I need to write a long-winded 45k word piece on why I hate Ed Sheeran's new album so much, particularly 'Shape Of You'.

 

Just looking at the top ten on iTunes, does anyone else feel like we've gone from 0 to 100 on the amount of stuff breaking through in the past few weeks. It was all very stale a month ago but now we seem to be getting at least 3 or 4 potential new hits a week.

I get what Tombo means though. If some people restrict themselves to downloading 1 song a week (like I used to) then they might just be getting round to downloading Shape of You

Ed's also touring at the moment, which will be helping if, for example, lots of people in the crowd have dragged along their parents or whatever who have somehow avoided or not warmed up to the song until now.

Considering how many millions of people there are in the UK, it's not that surprising.

It is so boring reading post after post on here bashing Ed all the time. Shape of you is a great song evidently (plenty of songs get a big push on radio etc and never catch on) and if it was sung by one of the random female artists this forum swoons over the party line would be very different.

Can't people be sick of a song that's been top of the charts for almost 4 months? Does being top of the charts mean that it's 'evidently a great song'? Do you honestly believe that if it were Anne-Marie singing it, people would want it no.1 for eternity because she has a vagina?

Yeah people were kicking off when Rockabye was at #1 for 9 weeks tbf so it's nothing to do with Ed personally. Any song that spends that amount of time at the top will garner hate or disdain!

Nah I'd be bored if it was Sia or Rihanna too. The whole 'this forum only likes girls!!!11' thing is so overused and so boring, the only reason we complain about male artists mostly is because it's male dominated at the moment.

I think Shape Of You would be a poor single regardless of who's singing it. Rihanna maybe would have successfully made it a bit more raunchy and sexy which would help a lot, it's one of the most sexless sex songs I've ever heard, but either way I think the song is rotten from the inside out.

"Shape Of You" would have been a massive hit for anyone B-list let alone A-list

but doubt it would have been 4 months at #1 for anyone else

the last 6/7 weeks at #1 the song got there cos people were streaming the album, not just Shape alone, without double counting it wouldn't have been #1 for so long
