The production is very 2014 DJ Mustard a la '2 On', 'Don't Tell 'Em' . . . so naturally I'm loving it.

I clocked that too, a pleasant surprise! Heard that 1Xtra were going to play the new Liam Payne single and did a double take but it sounds good!

It's very reminiscent of Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' to me. I like it. Doesnt't QUITE top 'Sign Of the Times' for me tbough, but still a good effort.
The ghost of Damon Dash collaborating era Victoria Beckham rattles its chains. It must be just me who finds this embarrassing...
I do enjoy the basic DJ Mustard-esque production but it does sound more 2014/15 than 2017 and I just don't think his voice has enough R&B undertones for him to carry it off. The vocal delivery lacks the soul needed to make it a properly vibey song. It does end up sounding like a basic boyband member covering a Chris Brown track and somehow making you actually miss Chris Brown (something I never thought would ever be possible).
I like the beat and production and the "strip that down" refrain, but there's something lacking elsewhere. I think I agree that Liam's voice isn't right for the style of song and it does sound a little to Ed Sheeran-esque for comfort. The lyric about being in 1D is cringy as fuck.
It's VERY Ed Sheeran sounding  I like it though, think it'd be behind Harry and Louis in terms of debut singles but ahead of Niall and Zayn on first listen.
I think this is the weakest of the 1D solo debuts apart from This Town for me, it might grow but his voice is quite grating on a track like this and it's basic af.

I can't believe anyone can give this any positivity, at all. Such cheap trash, cringeworthy lyrics, dated.

keep it~

It's crap. It's an auto-pilot Ed Sheeran song, with slightly more RnB production and is totally void of charisma.
I don't love or hate the song. I prefer it to Zayns material but Niall, Louis and Harry have far stronger material.
This is growing on me! Really enjoying it atm. Such a fun, party song!

First couple of listens have just left me feeling disappointed. :( It's passable but I expected more. His vocals are Ed Sheeran-like (i.e. 'Shape of You'-style Ed), atop a tired sounding DJ Mustard-esque production. I find it lacks any particular charm to it. I really thought I was bound to love his debut, but... oops! I just hope it grows on me, I'll give it more of a chance.

*re-thinks my signature*

Really liked this on first listen! Probably 2nd best after Pillowtalk for me now we have the complete collection to rank although Sign Of The Times has really grown in recent weeks so it's close.
